I would prefer Ronnie Raymond because that is the one I am most familar with.

This new one, whose name I am afraid to say I do not know. African Americans, between Steel and Catwoman, need a good solid film about an African American hero figure.

Why are we discussing this anyway? Firestorm is not a strong enough character to support a major motion picture (be it Ronnie Raymond, Martin Stein, or Jason Rusch).

I'm a Black Lightning man, myself.

Ok I beg to differ. Firestorm is more than capable of supporting his own motion picture. Not to mention he has had his own comic book series.

Just based on the success of Films like Batman, Superman, Spiderman and (possibly) The Hulk you can see that these characters took their time to develope a large fan base through various medium (not just the comics). The each had their own TV series, and numerous cartoon shows over that last 30 to 40 years. This has aided in making them Icon's (i.e. recognizable to millions all over the world). Characters like Firestorm have yet to do that, and therfore, will more than likely find it difficult to make it as a major motion picture and be profitable. Just having your own comic book series is not necessarily enough to make it as a major motion picute.

Assuming they actually make this, it should be Ronnie Raymond. Jason Rusch is just a second rate version.

 Neither is Ghost Rider. As we'll see demonstrated next year.

Ok just because a super hero does not have his own tv series does not mean that it will not make a lot of money. Look at Blade when it was first made he did not have his own tv series just comic books appearnces his own comic book series along with in Spiderman the animated series but it still became one of the highest grossing films in 1998. I believe Firestorm is the hero that can also do that. After the first film is made then more people before the movie came out will know who Firestom is.

I'd be fine with either version.. though if they want to show the history, they should start with Ronnie.. although-- if they do make the film with Ronnie, I hope the comics folks don't decide to bump off Jason...

If they do decide to make the movie then I think they might keep Ronnie and Jason seperate for the fact that they are two different being Firestorm. If they start with a origin story then they should start with Ronnie who was the first Firestorm.

Well I wasn't reading Firestorm when Ronnie was part of him. I'd take Jason because he not sterotypicallly written, but I like sticking to the source material with changes that only are needed when doing a movie, so Ronnie would be better dealing with orgins and all that. Now if it wasn't a stand alone film and more of a team then I'd pick Jason.

I never cared that much for FS and knew little about him. I just started reading FS because I read that DC wanted to make a new FS and although he's black his color wasn't going to be an issue like when so many other black characters are created in entertainment they are always either sterotypical or have racial references connected to them as if we can't tell they are black by just looking at them. It's nice to see a black person be a human first and race isn't the focus and have to always define who they are. I thought I'd see if DC sticks to its word and they have. While nothing new or really interesting is brought to the table about FS it's entertaining enough for me to read it monthly.

Ronnie Raymond with Martin Stein in his noggin.

Vampire films (and that genere) make money. Blade had that in his favor going in. I can not say the same for a character like Firestorm.

I have to disagree on the Ghost Rider remark. GR can very well be made into an amazing movie. Now the question is, will this movie be it?

On the Firestorm front...like i always say, every character can be made into a great movie, it all comes down to the vision and understanding of the character.
But one thing i can say, Firestorm is one of the most difficult characters to be put on screen.
The one that does it have to really put his thinking cap on...

The point is this: is Firestorm a strong enough character to warrant a movie?

And the answer is: no. He's appeared in fits and starts on the comic book scene for thirty years, he's a D-list superhero at best.

But if a character is not great in the first place, how can it be a great movie?

As for Ghost Rider.....you've seen the trailer? :o It's Spawn all over again. The CGI is woeful, the lines are embarassing ("Let's ride!")......this movie is by a comic geek for comic geeks. It will have no crossover appeal and won't make it's budget back.

It can be Blade.
