According to this.

With The Wolverine currently in production in Sydney, Australia, hype is starting to build for the upcoming X-Men film. So far, we’ve seen various set pictures as well as the first official shot of the titular character.

It’s all been very exciting and today, the excitement continues as we’ve learnt that Famke Janssen flew into Sydney last week to shoot a cameo for the film. This news comes after Janssen hinted at the possibility of reprising her role as Jean Grey in an X-Men film while on the press tour for Taken 2 at the start of October.

Janssen of course played Jean Grey a.k.a. The Phoenix, the love of Wolverine’s life, in the previous X-Men films. It is unclear how Jean Grey will fit into The Wolverine, though the film is thought to be another prequel to the original X-Men trilogy, so having her appear could make sense. However she factors into it, her role in the film, as small as it may be, is sure to get fans excited.

The Wolverine is directed by 3:10 To Yuma helmer James Mangold, and stars Hugh Jackman, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Will Yun Lee and Brian Tee. It will be released on July 26th, 2013.

My beloved Jean. This makes me so happy, if even just for a few second scene.

Her showing up In prequel wouldn't make sense. If true this means one of 2 things

1:Wolverine has dream of her eather post X2 or Last Stand(If post Last Stand maybe the earlier jean grey school for giftend youngsters speculation was right which would mean The Last stand Is indeed still part of film cannon leading Into Days of future Past)
2:at end of film post X2 Wolverine returns to mansion to find Jean(officially throwing out
the last Stand)

A jean cameo defently means this film Is set after events of at least X-men/X2 and possibly last stand(If they are including It In contunity)

As a stand alone film I'd rather not see a cameo from the other X films.
Plus that would mean the film is set in present times meaning as always Fox just likes to mess around with an already set story .... if this is true I'm getting a feeling it will be a mess like Origins all over again.

I'm a bit iffy on this. I liked Famke as Jean and having her back would be great since I hated how they handled her in X3. However it still irks me a bit how the movies seemed ready for her to ditch Cyclops and shack up with Wolverine and her having a cameo in a Wolverine movie doesn't really help (plus I really felt that they killed off Cyclops and just gave what should have been his story to Wolverine).

Hopefully this is just an after credit teaser for Days of Future Past and little more (if it's real).

This is the only thing that could get me interested in this movie. I love Jean, so I'd sit through a movie about my least favourite X-men just to see the cameo. Hopefully it isn't to show how much Jean loves Wolverine though.

No I was HOPING it would be more like the comic arc and from some early set pics it looked like Wolvie was in a prison camp ... perhaps a WW2 flash back.

Hmm, post credit scene?

Hmm, post credit scene?

I hope so.

Dont like x-men appearing in Wolverine movies. An after credits scene to lead to Days of future seems a smarter move

It's going to be eather a dream sequenze or In last scene of film.similar to Nick fury showing up at very end of captain America.

People also need to remember the original storyline In Comics was after he was member of x-men.And In one last panels of wolverine miniseries other X-Men appear briefly.

I will see the movie just for this cameo, but I think this is still just rumor.

That's pretty cool

the Cyclops fans are gunna throw a fit, lol

I'm not a big Cyclops fan, but I do think he got shafted in the movies. Frankly I think this sounds stupid regardless of whether you're a fan or not. It just sounds like a stupid retcon that there is no need for.

How does a scene that we know NOTHING ABOUT sound like a stupid retcon?

Erm, I hope she's not a "forgotten memory" as the article suggests. That's worse than not having a cameo. I hope her appearance is a post credit scene taking place after X3 leading into DoFP.

Yeah gotta agree, anything with Jean should be post Logan meeting the X Men. Another forgotten memory isnt the route Im hoping for. That would mean Jean has memory problems as well.

Did you not read the story in the link? The rumour says it would establish that X1 wasn't the first time Wolverine met Jean Grey. Assuming that's true, then yes it is a stupid retcon.

That's the not the rumor, that's just one websites idea.

I re-read it. It does sound a bit ambiguous. They mention the rumour is that it may be that Wolverine remembers a forgotten memory and suggests it's linked to the Jean Grey cameo. Needless to say I'm not a fan of that idea.

I don't mind Jean Grey having a cameo, but I'd rather it be a tie-in to DoFP and not something that leaves X3 as the last word on her character but at the same time goes against the earlier movies.

Wow! Interesting stuff. I've been away for a few days and am just catching up on all this latest X-news!

Ultimately, I'd like a younger, softer/sweeter-looking Jean Grey/Phoenix to appear in the films but for the sake of continuity and linking to DoFP, i can see why they'd want Janssen back.

haven't really been following news on this... when actually is this movie suppose to be set?

Well, it seems to span a lot of time. There was a WWII set in Australia, and modern cars in most of the Japan filming. Not sure when the main part of the film takes place. That makes it difficult to ascertain how Jean Grey would fit into the story.

As long as it makes sense, I don't mind when/where/how!
