What would classics be like if they were made today?

It really blows my mind what would Jaws do numbers wise if it came out this year.

Same with Scarface. There should be time capsule movies aha. Imagine if you could film a movie with actors and such and release it like 20 years into the future.

They should maybe consider that for ASM3 and ASM4 considering Gariield might have like 4 years to look semi young.

The crazy thing about classics is that they are classics due to the time of their release. Films like Jaws would never be made today because it wouldn't be the same film nor make the same money. But if Jaws was never released, we wouldn't have had the rise of the blockbuster nor would we have had the rise of Spielberg. And without Spielberg...

The seven samurai would be bloody and lots of lost limbs. Also there would be a sex scene with nudity. Also the actors would be speaking English. Or one of the samurai would happen to be an American who lives in japan.

And yes I know about the Eastwood and Bruce Willis movies. I am talking about a pure samurai movie.

Guarantee the Godfather would have ended up as an HBO series rather than a movie.

As would Jaws, I imagine.

Because we would have a CGI shark wherein you could do everything Spielberg and his crew couldn't do during production. Part of what makes Jaws great is the suspense of not seeing the shark for 2/3 of the film. You take that away you lose part of what makes it so special and terrifying. The Williams score lends to the very fact that you couldn't see the shark. It's part of the fear of the unknown. In this case, not knowing what's swimming beneath your feet when you swim. It all adds up into something iconic that just couldn't happen today.

Dr. No would be titled James Bond: MI6 Operative or something like that. Maybe even just James Bond.

Maybe Dr. No would have been called Commander Bond On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Fleming hadn't even written OHMSS yet when Dr. No was made.

If Alien were made today, you know the creature would be cgi and it would come out of the shadows so that everyone could take a look at it, there would be a big setpiece involving fire and leaping over chasms with flames, and the cast would be more attractive and younger (certainly Harry Dean Stanton wouldn't be cast). There also would be an outright comic relief character. And it certainly wouldn't be as deliberately paced.

It also probably would gross as much as the Thing prequel/remake.

Like Chris Tucker in 5th Element?

I don't think Jaws would be made today full stop. It was made and released at exactly the right time

Blockbusters allways existed, just the year prior to Jaws, The Exorcist came out and made a similar success, but it's possibly that Jaws and Star Wars were the reasons Summer major releases became a thing and along with Spielberg's other movies, reshaped what blockbusters are like. Unfortunatelly many filmmakers are stuck in that style, hopefully Cuaron and other modern filmmakers will help change how a blockbuster is constructed.
