Not really, the Founding Father feared any sort of popular executive, they called it Demogoguery. And greatly disapproved of ANY President going over the heads of Congress to sway popular opinion (which you could accuse nearly every President in the last 100 years of doing). They themselves refused to give speeches, they instead sent written addresses, to Congress as the viewed this as akin King addressing his subjects. They also hated the notion of a strong executive and many favored abolishing standing armies as they gave the Government to much might against the people themselves.apples and oranges.
Bush is far more like the tyrannical King of England that the colonies rebelled against than Clinton or FDR.
They also didn't like popular opinion weighing too much in on the affairs of the President, thought he should be disconnected from the people in such a way that he could act in their best interest without violating their rights.
