What'chu Gonna Do When the Wrestling Thread Runs Wild On You?!

Damn, I need to find a photo of Davey Richard's **** up last night. He tried to do a shoot star press to end his match with Daniels but essentially did a back flip and landed on the top rope to his right. Hung himself up right at his belly button. They called an audible and ended the match with a quick roll up. It was an odd sight to see after seeing such a good match.

ouch....I was in the service when WWE bought WCW so I didnt find out till I went to an internet cafe in Australia to check my e-mail and went to WCW.com and saw Shanes face there

Eddie Edwards post match celebration. Sadly, I made it into the video, thus ruining it.

That sounds like it hurts. :wow:

I had figured Davey would've become ROH champ next. Eddie winning surprised me.

Mankind, like Taker was an off the wall but entertaining gimmick being used by a very talented man. Those two were made for each other. You had a man who didn't feel pain vs a man who relished it. I loved that. It made for the one kind of opponent that Taker could go the distance with. I definitely agree it was the first feud where Taker could really up his game and show what he was capable of. Before Foley he had mostly worked with big lumbering giants.

I loved the concept that Mankind was willing do damage himself in order to hurt Taker. I rate it as the second best rivalry of both men's careers.

Thats one of those "What if" moments aint it? :awesome:

Most definitely, Flair even addressed it.

Takers biker gimmick wasn't as over as The Crow Sting but I do think Taker did some of the best work of his career. He was cutting some awesome promos after years of either not talking much at all or talking in a scary voice. The only other person I can think of that even comes close is Hogan going heel in 96. He helped start another wrestling boom. He didn't do it alone but it was one of the ingredients.

Hogan's reinvention was certainly stunning, but I think many were also dying to hate Hogan and he had prime material to turn on, basically denouncing his past as a huge money con. The thing with Sting was both his characters were face's and drastically different, yet both massively over. Of course it's kinda hard to gauge if the crow gimmick was more over as that period and angle was so hot.

Rewatching the JR-Rock-Austin interview before WM17. Man I forgot how good this was. THATS how you sell a main event match.

Taker vs HHH II could learn from something from that.

That's exactly how to make a big match feel big, it doesn't take epic level days of our lives BS (Orton vs HHH) to make a main event feel special.

He's ok right?

He's ok right?
I haven't read anything that said he wasn't. He was holding his right side where he landed when coming to and leaving the ring after congratulating Eddie. Davey was moving noticeably slow, and rightfully so after that spot.

That sounds like it hurts. :wow:

I sure as hell looked like it.

I figured Davey as well, especially after that match at Final Battle. This was so unexpected, makes the win even better to me.

The man who once defeated a masked Alberto Del Rio (as Dos Caras) in an MMA fight will probably retire.

Shawn Michaels spoke in the new issue of WWE Magazine about his post-wrestling life, the Hall of Fame and more. Check out the highlights:

On his retirement: "No matter how many times you say, 'I'm not coming back,' someone will always question you. There's always someone out there, especially with the Internet, saying you'll be coming back, or that you have ulterior motives, or whatever. That's just part of the gig."

On whether the Undertaker is a factor in his staying retired: "Again, I'm in a position where I have the luxury of being able to say, 'No, I don't want to do that' if I don't want to do something. And, if I say that, it's not going to happen. I wouldn't have put my career on the line against Undertaker's streak if I wasn't 100 percent ready to accept the consequences. Staying retired is as much about respecting him, and the match, as it is about respecting the promise I made to myself and my family. Sometimes there are moments that you just can't beat."

On Ric Flair's return: "So many people ask me about Ric, and whether his return bothers me. I always say, 'Absolutely not.' One match at Wrestlemania XXIV - that moment - was truly 100 percent real to me. And it was real to him. And that's never going to change. I want Ric to be happy. And to be perfectly honest, I know he's happiest when he's in the ring. That moment will always be very special to me."

On guys who return after retiring: "It's very tough to make a well thought-out decision when you don't have the time to think it out. I had that luxury, I was able to craft the circumstances surrounding my exit to the point that the career-ending stipulation meant something. I understand why people can't stay away. The atmosphere of the business - being around the guys in the locker room or out in the ring - can be very intoxicating."

For the new thread, I vote...

At WrestleMania, the Thread of Threads, Goes Back On It's Throne!

Or...

... And I Give You My Word, This Wrestling Thread Is Never, Ever, Going Away!

Or...

And That's The Wrestling Thread, Cause Stone Cold, Said So!

Those are all I can think of right now.

So, the Indy wrestler M-Dogg 20 is a contestant on Tough Enough.

Seriously? They could have done so much better than M-Dogg 20. Also the one thing I don't understand is that Christina Crawford is a contestant. So they release her from her developmental contract and then soon after she's on Tough Enough? I don't know how that makes any sense.

IMO, Miss USA Rima Fakih, because of who she is could be valuable for the WWE, although not from a wrestling standpoint. She has the diva look and with the attention she's received as Miss USA, surely she has some decent mic skills. She could easily serve in the interviewer capacity while she gets more training, much like Eve. The WWE could also bring her out to do some mainstream publicity stuff because of her status as Miss USA. FYI, right after she won Miss USA, she became the topic of talk as the first Muslim woman to win Miss USA. If she stays, she could easily turn heel due to her ethnic background, although that would be a basic chicken s--- move, although it would not surprise me.

I see that Jeremiah Riggs is a contestant this year. That's good because its what I want to see the WWE do if they can: sign anybody with MMA experience and Riggs has plenty of it. I am always of the belief that if an MMA fighter gets proper training as a pro wrestler, he/she could be one of the best in-ring talents out there.

maybe they want to give her another shot...im all for indie folk being on Tough Enough

now that I think about it I would actually prefer that get people on Tough Enough who have a bit of experience be it in the indies or whatever....Maven winning seemed a total waste considering his wrestling career was not that long

and he is now working for QVC....selling automated litter boxes

And that goes to why I am the way I am with wrestling, and why I am more about the character, story, and over the topness of it all than the in ring stuff. I am a sports fan. I want athletic competition I watch NFL, mlb, and NBA for that. I watch wwe for story and character. While it takes an obvious level of talent to do what these guys do, its not legit athletic competition, and I dont pretend to treat it as such
i never understood this stance i love character and story too but without delivering in the ring i feel i wasted by time investing in a storyline and the characters

it is like watching a bad ass movie trailer only to have the movie be mediocre

yes the style is nice and all but lacks the substance

like Nell said in that same post, its not a legit competition sooo the characters have to pick up that end of it

"The Wrestling Thread: The Showcase Of The Immortals" Thats my vote for the new thread title.

You've got to have both in this day in age. The in ring aspect and athleticism are important but so are character and story.

There are so many cases where there was one and not the other and it just didn't work long term. Warrior had a lot of character (maybe to much) but he couldn't cut it in the ring most of the time and it hurt him. Same was true for Goldberg.

Lots of guys where great athletes and great wrestlers (Shelton Benjamin being an example) but without the strong compelling character many people weren't as drawn to them.

- The plan for WrestleMania at this point is to make Triple H vs. Undertaker the main event, without any career vs. streak stipulation.

- There may be a change to one of the main card matches over the next few days. Speculation is that Christian could be added to the Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio match.

- The Post & Courier has an article of the Jeff Hardy/Victory Road situation here.

Apparently, World WRESTLING Entertainment are offended that they are perceived as a WRESTLING company. TVWeek.com put out a headline mentioning 'Drew Carey inducted into pro wrestling Hall of Fame'. Later, they received an email from WWE publicist, Kellie Baldyga, demanding that they change the headline, mentioning that "We are no longer a wrestling company but rather a global entertainment company with a movie studio, international licensing deals, publisher of three magazines, consumer good distributor and more."
Baldyga added "No, we don't do wrestling events. They're entertainments. And we don’t call them wrestlers. They’re superstars and divas."

WWE not a wrestling company (to no one's surprise):

TVWeek refused to change the headline. They just removed it. She then followed up, writing "I know the perception is that we are a wrestling company but we are actually much more than that--we are a global media company which is how our Chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon, positions us."

You can read more at this link.

Edit: Damn, beaten to the punch. You'll pay for this, Captain Planet! Uhh, I mean, Project862006!

no problem with superstars or divas hell they have been called superstars since the 90's but to not call your self a wrestling company is just dumb

maybe...but what can you compare that too? there isn't any other promotion as big as the WWE that is doing something different

They've evolved passed a wrestling company years ago. Wrestling is only one aspect of what the WWE offers now, so it's a reasonable claim they make.

yeah but i hear Vince even gets mad when wrestlers call a title a belt lol
