Depends on the species.

And don't use Wiki, anyone and their mother can put stuff on there. Find an actual website, you'll probably get better info there.

People keep saying this, but everytime I change anything it gets reverted in ten minutes. It's a weak argument. Wikipedia is accurate like 90% of the time, and if you check the talk pages you can generally get more insight into how the whole thing actually works.

It's the big tortises that live that long.
Yeah but they had a normal sized one (about the size of a NFL football) on this long running tv show here in the Uk and that thing was alive for decades!

Yup, it's a reliable site. I tried to change the Leet article and in less than 3 minutes I received a warning from them. :o

i'm almost sure you have to put tortoises in hibernation....but i have no idea about turtles....

Put in hibernation!?

You mean FORCE a natural occurance to happen?

If you keep the animal at the appropriate temperature all year round, it won't need to hibernate.

As for the Wiki reliability thing, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for clarifying.

I resurrected this thread simply because I figured no one would appreciate me opening a new one for this purpose... Aren't I grand?

I'm adopting this turtle, picture is crap, I'm told it's a Red-Eared Slider... But to me it doesn't look like one... Any turtle aficionados care to take a shot?

Forget turtles, go for the rottweiler of reptiles--a savannah monitor.

Turtle, and name it Gamera. Then by an Iguana and name it Godzilla.Put them in a cage and finally see who wins the fight.

lol damn it, he got his question answered two years ago!
Can someone try to answer mine!

well....i've been going on about wanting one for ages...and my parents finaly caved and said they'd get me one for my 18th birthday...

but...what one is better? what would be more fun to have as a pet? what one suits the name Charlie the best?

i need to know damnit:mad:

and i don't want to hear anything about ninjas

I thought you were supposed to get a hooker on your 18th birthday.

...but maybe my family's just old-fashioned...

I still think you should get both...think of it man, the ultimate battle, tortise vs turtle, 10 rounds. you could get a female turtle ring girl!

I've always had this plan to get a very young tortoise around the age of 30-40, and pass him off to my child(assuming I ever have/adopt one) as my legacy.
Very lame.
