The reception I gather seems to be that the first X-Men is good, X2 is better and the best, X3 is poor and the worst of the bunch and Wolverine has a mixed reception, not horrible but not good, either. FC seems to be neck and neck with X2 as the best-received movie. But I'll give the other four a look sometime and decide for myself.
On the subject of a Magneto origin movie,
I don't think it's really necessary after FC. I think everything that could've been done in a Magneto origin was pretty much covered in FC. In some ways FC was pretty much a Magneto Begins movie as was, even though it did a pretty good job of focusing on most of the other mutants.
I thought Wolverine and X-3 are equally terrible. But in different ways. X-3 is too muddled and overcrowded. Wolverine is just so boring and predictable, like it's going through the motions.
Anyway, just watched The Town for the first time. Great movie. Affleck and Renner amazing. I'd say Renner overshadows him, but that's mainly due to him playing a more entertaining and crazy character. I liked the whole thing with McCray falling for the hostage and the conflict that created. The scene where Jem appears when they are on a date is "squirm in your seat" intense. Affleck has shown himself to be a great director.
Not going to disagree with you on that at all. I can certainly see anyone wanting to argue any of them anyway. Both as bad, X3 worse than Wolverine, vice versa.
For me X3 has more redeeming qualities, such as the dynamic between Magneto and Professor X was still enjoyable and well done. Despite their differences, there still is a level of respect and even though that friendship had ended long ago, traces still existed.
That alone for me makes X3 slightly better. imho.
