John Carter

I loved it but the middle act was kinda confusing only because they explained a whole lot that felt kinda rushed. I loved the CG characters, both the performance and the CGI work. Lynn Collins made me wish there's a Wonder Woman movie because she got the charisma and looks to pull it off. I really hope they make a sequel, overall it's a well made film.

Silent House (2012)

A decent horror film with an interesting gimmick of having it look like it was shot in one take. Elizabeth Olsen was phenomenal, she acted her ass off in this which was a big plus because otherwise the film would fail horribly. The twist ending was odd even though I understood it, I thought they could've done it better. I haven't seen the original but i'm interested to see how different it is.

Elizabeth Olsen's rack :o

Really liked it! I can't even begin to understand how some people found this movie confusing though.
There was only one thing I found mildly confusing, if at all. I attribute this more to my attention span, but I had a little difficulty at times trying to keep the names of the supporting Barsoomian characters straight. On another note, I never entirely understood what the ultimate goal of Mark Strong's character was other than maintaining the balance (or lack thereof) of power on Barsoom. I probably simply missed that point. Overall though, I loved the movie!

Drive.

Really enjoyable but not the eyeball-bleedingly brilliant masterpiece some internet pundits touted it as.

A solid 3/5

JOHN CARTER

I remember finding a copy of Edgar Rice Burroughs A Princess of Mars in a box in one of my High School classrooms. After reading it i wondered why a film or even a t.v series was never made based on such an interesting story. There was a Marvel Comics series and recently a comic series from Dynamite
It bounced around from Looney Tunes to Paramount studios for over 80 years.
Finally in 2012 Disney has brought JC to the big screen.

The film has some wonderous, fun, funny and action packed moments.
Taylor Kitsch as John Carter does a fine job as the former Confederate captain John Carter who is mysteriously transported to Mars.
Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium plays well with Kitsch, and those eyes....WOW.
You might need a scorecard to keep up with the warring races that inhabit Mars/Barsoom
The film does have flaws.Plot holes, an underdeveloped villain (Dominic West as Sab Than, Prince of Zodanga),interesting plot points that are never explored.
Still these flaws dont water down whats good about JC.
Such as an effective action sequence which blends in flashbacks of a tragic turning point in JC's life on earth.
Im looking forward to the DVD .It will be interesting to see what was cut from the film.

Friends with kids

Friends_with_kids_poster.jpg

Jason (Adam Scott) and Julie(Jennifer Westfeldt) have been close friends for 19 years. In fact they are so close they will call each other in the middle of the night while their lovers sleep inches away. They both want children, havent found "the one" yet,and they think they can bypass the stress and arguements, they see their friends with kids (Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm as Missy and Ben,Maya Rudolph and Chris O'Dowd as Leslie
and Alex)having.
So they decide to have a child together...no strings attached.
Writer, director and star Jennifer Westfeldt pulls no punches in various strong scenes that are filled with humor and truth.
She never holds back the fact that having a child is life changing, time consuming, and one of the most incredible things you can do an experience in this life.
How will Jason and Julie, explain their arrangement to their new loves Edward Burns as Kurt, and Megan Fox as Maryjane, who may become stepparents to their child?
How will they explain it to their child when the child comes of age? How will they feel when the child becomes close to the stepparent?
It is impossible not to become emotionally tied to the person that you have a child with,no matter how many contracts you sign or promises you may make.
When all of the aforementioned plays out in the film, Friends with kids is at its best and most honest, but when it heads toward the basic romantic comedy path the film starts to lose steam.
But in the end its still a very good and realistic look at raising children and relationships.

3.5/5

Would have given it a 4 but I didn't like the ending at all. It pissed me off to be honest. Bunch of bleeding heart ********.

Fast Five

Better than expected, quite entertaining. 6/10

John Carter of Mars (2012)

Not perfect but nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be. The film's biggest weakness is probably the sense of "seen it before" due to all the movies and TV shows that have obviously imitated the story over the years - Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Dune, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc.

John Carter 7.5/10
I just saw this movie this morning and i thought it was okay it was a little slow and uninteresting in the beginning and got better as the movie went on.But I think its one of those movies you watch on TV and don't mind watching it. The CGI was great in the film it really looked gorgeous visually. And after seeing this movie i am officially in love with Lynn Collins she is HOT!!

Drive

9/10

Deserved its Best Director win at Cannes. Refn shows how much emotion and characterization can be shown with just a facial expression or a three-sentence conversation. The Driver rarely says anything and has little-to-no backstory, yet his relationships with the supporting characters are well defined because of his actions and mannerisms. Gosling's performance is one of his best; up there with Half Nelson and Lars and the Real Girl. And, as many others have said, the action and pulpy violence look great and build suspense very well.

Tactical Force

Had tons of potential, but squandered by a typical unimaginative DTV movie hack director. If they'd gotten Scott Mann or John Hyams, it would be up there with The Tournament, Undisputed Sequels and UniSol: Regeneration in terms of DTV action films. I do hope Steve Austin and Michael Jai White continue to work together. Really good chemistry there.

John Carter

As someone who loves reading pulps, whose favourite authors are Wells, Lovecraft, Chandler, etc. This was a movie for me. Absolutely loved it. What I felt in the cinema is what I assume people felt when watching Star Wars for the first time back in 1977. I don't care that this is a flop, it's already amassed a cult following after it's opening weekend. This is a movie I'll be showing to my kids, and nephews and nieces and little cousins alongside Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

Wooden acting and terrible dialogue but it is a slightly different take on the standard Chuckles Nozza cop flick, essentially a forerunner to Arnie's End of Days and enjoyable in a nostalgic way. 5.5/10

This was a pretty damn fun film. It may be getting it's ass kicked in the theaters, but I have a feeling it's going to do real well on DVD/Blu-ray like a lot of other films that failed at the BO.

It's a blessing in disguise. The film will remain unmolested. The next sequel could've received a Aliens/T2/Dark Knight level of improvement, but afterwards it could've gone the way of the Pirates franchise.

Besides, it's apparently going to do HUGE overseas, so at the very least, Stanton and Co. will be rewarded for their hard work.
