The Dark Knight What's the need to recycle Rachel Dawes and Scarecrow?

Character growth is more interesting than character death. Having Rachel Dawes featured so prominently in Batman Begins and then to have her vanish in The Dark Knight cheapens the character. it makes her seem less important.

and the Scarecrow was just cool.

Thats fine, thats great.
You like Scarecrow and your getting him again.
Sooooooo whats the problem, lol ??

What's funny is I think we're actually in agreement. It's just my strange logic may have thrown you off.

I have no problem with Scarecrow and Rachel coming back.

Only thing I don't specifically like is the recasting of Rachel.

Is it because of Nolan's loyalty to the actors and scriptwriters? I want to see new villains like the Penguin or Riddler, and less so with Scarecrow. There are going to be 3 movies from Nolan, so a variety of villains is needed.

As for Rachel Dawes, I believe it's even more unnecessary. Batman doesn't require a romantic arc that will cut off some time for action scenes.

Batman:
More action scenes
More detective scenes
Less romance
Less people gawking over Bat-Toys
Less recycled villain
This makes little sense to me.
I think more Rachel is fine for this plot. She was one of the DA's in BB, shes part of the city, part of the story. Why would she disappear from the story. I think it would be lame if she wasn't in the story just because they couldn't get katie or some other reason. Like when Bruce mentions Vicki Vale in Batman Returns. Why would she just leave the story? And Catwoman at the end of Batman Returns. Where did she go?
harvey Dent and Rachel Dawes is the perfect follow up after her fellow DA was killed by the League of shadows in BB.

And Scarecrow, you want him to go to Mexico and sip on fear toxin Margaritas. His chemicals basically turned the working class of Gotham into maniacs. batmans villains are all maniacs and what happened at the end of BB is a great way to have these characters finally bloom. ("Escalation").
Scarecrow is part of the story. This isn't Lethal Weapon or Indiana Jones. This story takes place for the most part in one city.

And more new villains!? We have the Joker!! And a precurser to 2Face as well as more mafia gangsters.
And there was VERY little romance in BB. It only hinted at it!

thats all true. It really bugged me when the love interest of Bruce left after every movie (mind you alot of things shumacher did bugged me) but this makes it seem much more believable. and Cillian Murphy had an amazing performace in BB, so why not bring him back?

And then at the end they both mutually c***blocked the relationship. So there really could not be less romance.

Whoa this thread is still going? Im impressed.

1. You're an idiot...stop whining

2. thank GOD Scarecrow is indeed coming back. You're looking at the first recurring Bat villain in the movie franchise

3. And this is for everyone who hates Rachel: Shes a major part of the new franchise, whether you like it or not.

Because people don't read the inner pages of thread!

I already accept and ok that the 2 characters will be in. The title of this thread and vitriolic fueled starter makes people want to get their Pinata sticks.

Im glad we will gain some Scarecrow closure unlike the continuity error through Maggie. I dont see the talent hype in her and she's not baberific at all. Katie as Rachel Dawes had me at hello and sucks I cant get back my emotional investment with this recast suicide.

Yes,because how hot you find her is essential to the story.

Glad someone else sees how movies work in general:

"Your attractiveness dictates how much screen time and plot importance even if it is entirely unnecesary."

That explains X3 and the use of Storm.

For continuity, which Warner's said they felt was a problem with the previous movie series. You can't have someone that is this important to him and then just throw her by the wayside.

Scarecrow is needed again because his character was underused in Begins, but he was good in the few scenes he was in, and Racheal Dawes is needed again so the audience as the satisfaction of seeing her die. simple as that

Actually come to think of it, I think there are too many villains already in the film. Is there enough screentime for Joker, Sal Maroni, or pre-Two Face if Scarecrow is in the movie?

Scarecrow's role will probably be like Zsasz's in Begins, which didn't rob anyone of screen time.

Scarecrow's role was as small as tolerable in Begins, Zsasz is not much more than a few face shots. With him having his own gang seems likely more than just a cameo
