Because alot of people don;t know alot about what the movie will be about i made this thread, because alot of plot details, legit ones have been released, details are legit and have been verified by Batman On Film.

News starting from June/July 2005 (all reported on BOF)
---

"Our source says, 'Everyone is in agreement that the movie's strength is with Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman...[Katie Holmes] won't be in the sequel...the next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress,' we're told. 'Warner is happy that people are now focusing on who'll be playing The Joker rather than Katie and Tom [Cruise].'"

I've gotten a ton of email here today from people saying they saw/read a CNN reporting which says that Katie Holmes - Rachel Dawes in BATMAN BEGINS - has indeed been dropped from the upcoming sequel. Seemingly, Warner Bros. is not too happy about Ms. Holmes' lack of promotion of HER film this summer.

According to the June 2005 issue of Premiere magazine, Batman Begins screenwriter David S. Goyer said, "The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and Dent in bringing down the Joker... but not killing him. In the third movie, the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process."

IESB also caught up with Cillian Murphy who told them he knew nothing about the next film and that he's yet to be contacted about returning - which I don't think he will from what I've heard...

"All the major characters from the first film aside from the villains are back."
"Two additions to the cast of 'good guys:' Harvey Dent and Sarah Essen."
"[The] Joker will be in this film, although he will be just one of several major villains." "The Joker. I won't spoil things for you but those expecting an exact translation of [the Character] from the comics, in terms of costume, you will be disappointed. However, let may say that this Joker will be the 'The Joker;' the way character is written is very faithful to [how] he is in the comics and I can see why WB is not interested in actors like Crispin Glover or Johnny Depp."

"I won't reveal all the villains, but I'll leave a few hints that the avid comic fan should be able to decipher. One will be an ambiguous mob boss with ties to the late Dr. Thomas Wayne. Another will be an industrial heir not unlike Bruce Wayne - in fact it could be said that he is a dark mirror of Bruce. Over the course of the story, he will be forced to present a new 'face.' And then we have a small, almost cameo type [appearence by a] villain who is considered a 'classic rouge' as a British arms dealer. It may sound a bit crowded, but it all fits together, makes sense, and works much like a comic story arc."
Sarah Essen - a former GPD cop with "ties" to Gordon - now work for the ATF. "As for the villains plot, the mob boss and the heir get involved with a major arms deal with the 'British Guy,' while Batman and his allies attempt to foil it. [As a result,] they uncover more of the corruption plauging Gotham. Unfortunatly for both sides, nobody knew there was a Joker in the deck who complicates matters."

I got three "names" for you. They could be considered spoilers, so scroll over them if you want to read:
Salvatore Maroni. Roman Sionis. Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot....

- "Linus Roache is most certainly back seeing as how there may be some flashbacks showing Thomas Waynes' ties to 'Ambiguous Mob Boss,' and a scene showing the relationship The Waynes' had with the late parents of 'The heir.'"
- "The Joker will be the central villain, although he isn't directly connected to the other 'villain plots.'"
- "The other major villain, 'The heir,' will be more a villain to Wayne himself than Batman - causing a rather interesting sitiuation where Bruce will find all his identities under assult."
- Loeb and Flass will return. The latter is no longer a member of the GPD.
- "In light of Nolan's ambiguous comment about Robin. I know for a fact that [currently, Robin is NOT in the mix]." - "Let me clarify what I said about The Joker's apperence. As far as his physical apperence goes, it seems pretty faitful to the comics - although its' never really explained why he will look the way he does. So no make up or permanent smiles on his face. As far as his costume, by 'exact translation' I mean the kind of translation that has been seen in 'The Animated Series or Burton's 'Batman.' I never said anything saying that we might not see the Joker in purple at some point."

According to the report, The Joker "...won't be zany and clowny but rather, in keeping with the tone of director Chris Nolan's films, will be dark and frightening with a broad smile under his wide-brimmed hat." The story also says that The Penguin will appear as a "Russian arms dealer," although our source said the arms dealer was British, not Russian (Cobblepot Russian?). Now, this adds more legitimacy to our previous sequel plot report,

“I checked out your updates and as far the treatment I read goes, there [was] no Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Dr. Arkham, Dr. Lesile Thompkins or Talia Al Ghul in the sequel. That doesn't mean they won't be in it, just that they weren't in the treatment I read. Keep in mind that this was also the first draft and things do change and I haven't been able to get my hands on any new drafts. I doubt we will see any doctors from Arkham as it is shut down and “The Narrows” is still pretty much a disaster area and a haven for various villains. There is a small subplot about Wayne trying to help fund the clean up and rebuild The Narrows -- particularly [one] involving a massive tenement complex that will be the setting of perhaps the most spectacular action sequence in the film.
----
All of this is based on Goyers treatments, though a litle might changed now that there is a differnt writer, but very little.

This......is kind of bad news. From what I just read, it seems he's taking the realistic approach a tad too far.

I want the Joker to have red lips, green hair, and white skin. I know he will be a good representation of the comics, but I want the physical appearance. I do like that they're not keeping the costume though, that makes me happy. I just hope they don't "Scarecrow" his role, and make him appear in like 13 minutes of the film, I want more Batman, I want more of the "freaks."

I also like how they're using the basis for The Long Halloween and just replacing the characters with other characters.

I like the Year One, Year Two, Year Three thing they're doing, I can't wait for The Dark Victory film.

Joker not being the Joker is appearance is a big downer... but appearance isn't all that important... as long as the character is the Joker... I'm good...

I don't care if the Joker looks like the Joker...

I just want to see the translation from comic to movie to be strong in the storyline and enjoy a great flick...

I'm just curious as to all the flash backs in this flick... I mean Thomas Wayne... a Joker back story... seems like a lot...

It says his look is pretty close to the comics .

I think the Joker thing will be good . . . I think that he will just look naturally freaky . . . like his skin was bleached, not painted . . .

It seems the Joker will be the Joker when it counts: in characterisation and in terms of attitude and most importantly in terms of being a dark sadistic criminal

I was going to say the same thing...It says his look won't be explained, which means we won't see the character put on make-up or get scarred etc. That doesn't mean the actor playing the character won't be wearing maek-up.

Also, as for how he dresses, I like teh description of "a big sinister smile under his wide brimmed hat". Makes me think that we willl see a stylish Joker.

Yeah. When the source says there won't be makeup, he means makeup won't be used to explain why The Joker looks the way he does.

HOW THE **** DO YOU NOT CARE IF THE JOKER DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE MOTHER ****ING JOKER!?!?!!?

Thats like casting Woody Allen as Batman, having him never wear the batsuit but having him act mean and mysterious

WELL HE ACTED LIKE BATMAN SO IM GLAD

HOLY ****

god, the Joker's god damn appearance is a lot of the reason he's insane :(

He went to Neverland to visit Michael Jackson and got so terrified by his nose falling off that he fell backwards into Jacksons stash of facial bleach. LOL

I agree with The Last Meatbag. The Joker's appearance is part of his character. Why change it?

Other than that, I have no qualms about the rumors.

A lot, and I mean A LOT of people will be mad when they go to see the movie, expecting "The Joker" and not getting "The Joker". The average fan knows who The Joker is, 'he has green hair, white face and red lips', and that's what the people will expect to see. I really don't mind what he dresses in (I like the idea of a wide brim hat, trenchcoat personally, you could have a 'reveal' type moment with it).

It's like Superman in a black and silver 'living suit'. That's not Superman, and a Joker without the green hair, white face and red lips is not The Joker IMO.

Let me emphasize this again:

"Let me clarify what I said about The Joker's apperence. As far as his physical apperence goes, it seems pretty faithful to the comics - although its' never really explained why he will look the way he does. So no make up or permanent smiles on his face. wow....if i dont see a guy wearing white makeup, red lips, and green hair onscreen than the joker will be a failure. bad enough he may not wear his trademark purple. bad enough he'll be like every other cookie cutter serial killer from the movies rather than unique like the joker should be...

Ofcourse the ****ing character will be wearing makeup... all actors do... duh... they just won't "use the makeup to explain his appearance"... he can still be pale or w/e... but in the movie they can explain it as a natural pale skin tone... trigger hit it on the mark... plus if he has a hat... he will have an outlandish suit... maybe not fruity purple... but something close...

Exactly .

Don't freak out over nothing, folks.

If Joker doesn't look like the character, I won't be watching the movie.

If that was read thoroughly by everbody I don't think anybody would be upset, but everyone reads it half assed. The actor himself will be wearing makeup but they won't show Joker wearing make-up to become "The Joker".. he'll already be himself when we're introduced. He automatically just has white skin.

give me a freaking break people.!!!! it says that he won't be the exact translation as far as costume. I'll tell you right now I'm not gonna sit on the floor with my legs crossed and my arms folded with a mean look on my face potting like half the people in this thread if the Joker doesn't have a people costume on. I can almost say without a doubt that Nolan will go with the overall look for the Joker. He doesn't need makeup to be the Joker. That just perks my interest of how Nolon is going to pull it off. Not to mention this info was annonced sooooo far ago, atleast three months or so that we all should have come to terms with it by now and moved forward.

I can't wait for 2008 to get here!
Bring on the sequel!
