And I'm talking really big ones...the huge stories that go on for months and months, feature endless characters and shake everything up before reaching an enormous climax. Secret Wars, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Knightfall, the Clone s....er, I mean, World War Hulk....

Final Crisis- Epic, great high concept ideas, smartly written. It's the only event where it feels like everything is at risk. Morrison writes a great Darkseid and Superman. And the tie-ins weren't have bad either, especially Superman Beyond and Batman: Last Rites.

I also really enjoy DC One Million. No one does epic superheroes like Morrison. The Hitman tie-in was funny.

Final Crisis is up there, certainly (big Morrison fan) but I've gotta go with Annihilation, which not only was great in and of itself, but set up a cosmic line that flowed naturally from the events, rather than it seeming forced. Great writing, great art, great characterization, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Earth X - Marvel
Kingdom Come - DC
JLA vs Avengers - Buseik
Midnight Sons - Marvel

The first and greatest Dc crossover:
Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Crisis on Infinite Earths.

I find Crisis to be, by far, the most overly-complicated. It's stuffed with heroes and villains for the sake of it, and full of fight scene after fight scene that goes nowhere. In one panel you have a battle between six or seven obscure DC characters, then next panel another battle with different characters, and the next panel is the same with more different characters. Twelve issues of this....I've never found a comic so hard to force myself to read.

I'm reading Seige at the moment, and in less than half the length of COIE, it's more epic, thrilling and awe-inspiring.

I certainly prefer Final Crisis, as it is full of characters but also full of ideas. When characters show up, generally they have a purpose in the storyline, rather than just filling out the battle scenes.

My top 10:
Civil War
Marvel Vs. DC (90's)
Knight Fall
Death and Return of Superman (that's what got me into comics)
Avengers Disassembled
Earth X
Kingdom Come
World War Hulk
Blackest Night
Infinity Gauntlet

Agreed. One of my favorite parts of Final Crisis was...Tawky Tawny!

I haven't really read many big crossovers besides these two.

The Secret Wars. Never before or since has a toy tie-in been so good.

You can't beat a tiger in a suit with a jetpack.

The Secret Wars. Never before or since has a toy tie-in been so good.

I remember playing with the toys and having the sticker album as a child, and just being awed at the entire concept. Secret Wars is what introduced me to the Marvel universe beyond Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

When I actually read the comic twenty years later...it's lame. It's rushed, lazy, and ridiculously stretced out. You could easily tell the entire story of Secret Wars in one or two issues. There aren't even many good fight scenes.

Marvel Vs DC is obviously the greatest of all cross over events.

Okay, not really. I'd probably say either Kingdom Come or 52. Does 52 count?

Why do people talk so much trash on Marvel Vs DC from the 90's? Okay maybe it wasn't THAT great but like many things from the 90's, it was less than prefect but brings back memories from my teenage years.

Because it was awfully written and the outcomes were determined by the fans.

I don't hate it, in fact it's one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Like Ferret said though, it was poorly written and outcomes and match ups were kind of absurd.

And what's wrong with that? Like we don't know what we're talking about? Though I have to admit (as much as I LOVE Spider-man) it didn't make any sense to put hime up aganist Superboy. Superboy is WAAAAY more powerful but because Spidey is WAAAAY more popular he won. But I don't blame that on the fans I blame that on Marvel and DC for putting them together

"We" is a broad term. I know enough to say that Lobo would beat Wolverine horribly, but it was basically a popularity contest.

I thought that Unity was cool. Most mega-events don't interest me at all.

This is off the top of my head so it may no be exact, but these are my top 5:

1. Earth X
2. Sinestro Corps War
3. Final Crisis
4. Annihilation
5. Onslaught

Well, crossovers are something I usually dread as they tend to be death-fests. My hatred of COIE is pretty well known as I love Earth-Two and the Multiverse, so it's out. Mostly I try to think of ones that were more or less harmless and maybe something good came out of..so maybe Knightfall? No permanent harm to Batman, made it clear that Dick Grayson was the man to succeed him...I guess that or even RIP was as good a crossover as any. I really don't see crossovers as a chance for a great story, I see them as disasters and bloodbaths waiting to happen.

The most ******ed crossover was "Legends". Not so much the story, but the timing. The crisis was just over, "Year One" wasn't even published and the new Superman was just out there for three issues. Don't know why they did that. Should have waited at least another year.

Regarding COIE, I think it's interesting that Batman there was pretty much useless. The only thing of any significance was to punch out Calendar Man and in his own titles IIRC he even stated that he couldn't do much against the things happening but he still kept on fighting generic criminals.
