i thought it was alright, cool concept but would have preferred being a little bit more surprised at the twist of the whole thing.

True, they really let the cat out of the bag kinda early on. Although I really didn't see [BLACKOUT]the cavalcade of horror monsters[/BLACKOUT] coming. That surprised the hell out of me.

[blackout]there are gods deep in the Earth. Each country has this sacrifice to give to the gods. If the gods accept that sacrifice then they stay dormant. So, each country has a sacrificial scenario setup to increase the likelihood of appeasing the old gods. If all countries fail then the gods awake. If Japan fails then the Japanese god does not awake as countries have failed before. All the sacrifices are connected.[/blackout]

I've kept this to myself for fear of rejection, but after reading so many of the comments here, I'm just going to come out and say it.

This movie SUCKED. I'm inclined to believe people are jumping on this movie's bones because they love all the hidden winks and easter eggs sprinkled through out the film. But I wasn't impressed at all. The first 2 acts are BORING. The kills are DULL. And there seems to be a focus on its humor rather than its plot.

I've heard people compare this to Scream, and then I've heard people say this is better than Scream. The 2 can't compare in any form, except for the fact that they are meta. Scream uses it's DRAMA of a small town suburban girl to propell the characters and plot forward. Cabin uses humor to point out the stupidities of the Horror genre to push itself all the way through to the 3rd act. And once there, the film has run out of steam for me to care any more. This film is too meta for its own good. It ends up being more of a praody rather than a satire, which Scream is. It tries too hard to be intelligent and crude, when it comes across and uninspired and lazy. Basically, it thinks its smarter and above what it really is.

About the 3rd act, what a wasted opportunity. All those feature creatures and all we get for the majority of the film are zombies? Zombies are overdone and tired to death at this point, much like vampires. No doubt it was the best part of the entire movie, but 5-10 minutes of an 1h35min movie does not make it good.

1/5. Terrible.

I’m all for originality....but not to the point where it gets totally out of this world. There is a fine line between creative original.....and simply just ridiculous and ******ed

The whole monologue by Sigourney Weaver at the very end...makes me wanna cringe. Especially the part about the world coming to an end if we don’t please the eldery gods.Did a twelve years old wrote this???


And the ending sucks.....I felt cheated....it didn’t have a proper conclusion...it ends abruptly...like some sort of cliffhanger endings.....

This film is a reflection on the horror genre. It breaks down like this.

The kids in the cabin are the films we're used to seeing.

The guys in the control room are the film makers that make said film.

The gods are the "Watchers" or really, us the audience, and we demand to be satisfied.

And the Zombies. that was a clear choice in my eyes as they are making fun of the current craze of zombie movies and their popularity and the fact they made them dumb red neck hick zombies is a pretty clear jab they think the zombies need to go away and they have just become a dead horse the industry will not stop beating.

The film makers have to make the kids dumb to satisfy our thirst for blood and carnage. If we the people don't get that we walk of the film feeling cheated, much like the gods do at the end of this film and rage against those that did not satisfy their thirst for blood. This film is designed to anger those that don't care to watch a film that is a thesis on horror films and made to rewards those that want to watch what these film makers think of the film makers that make "horror" films. Love it or hate it, it's a cleaver little film. I may not watch it again but I really like this approach to the film and thought it was worth a watch.

It's not that I think people don't get it, people don't go to films to have to "get it" which I think is the problem with this film for most people. This film is for sure not everyones cup of tea. Someone told me they hated this film, they thought the acting sucked, the ending was stupid and the zombies were lame. As a pure film or movie, I think this kind of fails, but it's not really just a film. But I'm not going to defend this as it's not really a big deal to me but I do get why people do not like this movie.

Wow...saw it for a second time and it's still amazing. My favorite film of the year so far. This year is shaping up better than last year for me. Cabin would be my favorite movie of 2011 if it came out last year.

Cabin in the Woods - Review

It’s the horror comedy of the year that everyone will be talking about during the year much like Zombieland became the hot topic of discussion in 2009. Cabin in the Woods is produced and co-written by Joss Whedon (Buff the Vampire Slayer) and co-written and directed by Drew Goddard. The movie is an interesting take on the horror film franchise, a parody and insult to it, but in a much more clever way than any of the Scary Movie franchises would ever hope of making, but like movies such as Scary Movie, you will be entertained at the amount of horror movie references to movie throws at its audience.

The movie stars Dana (Kristen Connolly) the virgin nerd girl arc-type, Curt (Chris Hemsworth) the “goofus sport dude”, Jules (Anna Hutchison) as the “****ty girl”, Holden (Jesse Williams) the egghead and lastly Marty (Fran Kranz) as the pothead, who seriously looks like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. These are the college students who want to go paaaarteeey on a Cabin in the Woods, and to say more about the story and characters would be spoiling.

David Julyan’s score adds to the atmosphere nicely, the good range from classical horror themes with its piano, the pop music for the stereotypical party scenes and the action heated violin play amplifies the excitement for the viewer as the **** hits the fan.

See this movie; it will be something you really want to talk about with your friends.

Were you high when you watched this movie?

If I was high, I probably would have actually liked the film. Which begs the question...........is everyone else liking this movie because they were high lol?

It's quite disappointing for me. I'm such a huge horror fan, and this would have been right up my alley. I SHOULD like this film in theory. But I don't. It's so dull and try hard. And the 3rd act, which was the best part of the film, is basically everything the beginning and middle of the film should have been.

This probably would have worked better as a short film. I thought the same thing for Kill List. Would have worked better if it was a 20 minute short film.

The guy has a right to his opinions even though I wouldn't give it a 1. I saw this last weekend and liked it ( gave it a 8/10) but I will say the opening act is pretty boring, and the kills are uninspired. And the movie does walk on the borderline of horror movie satire and parody. But it's the concept the nods and humor that sell this movie. As an actual horror movie though it sucks.

Anyway, I liked the movie soley because of the meta stuff, nods etc but I didn't fall in love with it. But I will be watching it again when it hits redbox just to see of it will still hold up in my eyes.

The kills were "uninspired" but I think that's mostly a product of the fact that the monsters pursuing them were pretty generic monsters as well. Plus, the monsters

only got to kill three people on-screen. You had the blonde getting her head cut with a two person saw (pretty awesome), the nice guy getting it through the throat (typical shock kill) and the director getting axed in the head (nothing new). There were some pretty awesome deaths still though like the jock ramming his bike into the barrier and tumbling down it, the stoner using the trowel to dismember the zombie and of course the monster onslaught (which included a ****ing unicorn stabbing some guy).

I'm not saying the film had the greatest kills, but there were some nuggets in there.
