Do you think that they'll work the classic Captain America cartoon theme song into the movie somewhere? If so, how? I was thinking that it should probably appear in a diagetic way like how they worked the Spider-Man and Iron Man songs into their respective movies. I'm thinking it would be interesting if the Captain America song appears in the 1940's, when patriotic songs were very popular. I'm thinking it could either be playing on a radio somewhere, or maybe someone digs it up in modern times when Cap returns.

yea playing on some radio in the 40s would be a prim spot to have it.

A propaganda would work the best it would also be a great spot to have Cap hitting Hitler.

All of these are good ideas, I'd love to see it a bit early in the film, probably in a montage of some sorts about how Cap's fame is spreading and how the public is growing to love him.

yea i am pretty sure they will throw any previous music pieces assoicated with cap in the film somewhere. They did it for spider-man, and ironman i dont see why they wont with cap.

I think the Cap theme used as a radio jingle during WWII would be perfect,
During WWII Captain America was sort of used to help the War effort, he was on posters, he went to schools to talk to children, he was probably in radio commercials, and news reels before movies.

They wouldn't focus on them, but they could show a lot of Cap WWII stuff:

Movie serials and news reels:

Maybe board games:

WWII enlist posters: "Captain America Wants You..."

an official Kids Fan Club maybe:

kids masks:

Perhaps even a small Cap museum after his death (when they think he is dead):

All I am saying is that they can show subtle things like the radio jingle, a kid holding a doll, kids wearing Cap masks while he talks to them at their school, Bucky Barnes reading a Captain America comic, Steve and his girlfriend seeing a Captain America serial before the movie they are watching... some subtle things here and there. Nothing too much or too over the top and not so much shown either really.

The Cap song should most definitely be used as a radio jingle during WWII.

Agreed 100%

I think they could work it in. In WWII it was common to get news update on the war in the theater, prior to seeing a movie. They could have that song set some of his footage to that song back them and it would be totally believable.
I can think of about 5 different ways off the top of my head to use that footage and song in a totally believable way that would actually contribute to the “man out of his own time” sub plot.

I want to hear Captain America by Jimmy Buffet

Can you tell me where I might find my friend and companion
He looks a little different from anything you've seen
He likes to beat the bass drum for justice and salvation
He's got the brains of Einstein and brawn of Mister Clean

He's a lighnting flash who makes the dash from one coast to the other
To stop a crime or lend a dime or help his aging mother
Captain America we love you, Captain America you're grand
Oh Spiro Agnew eat your heart out, Captain America's our man

He wears a mask his clothes his clothes are weird and some folks call
him hokie
But he is hip and just can't dig the okie from Muskogie
Captain will help anyone a friend or a stranger
Now number one without a gun he's bypassed the Lone Ranger
He's a do do good who loves apple pie and kisses little babies
He'll guard you against everything from atom bombs to rabies

Captain America we love you, Captain America you're grand
Oh Spiro Agnew eat your heart out, Captain America's our man

Can you tell me where I might find my friend and companion
He looks a little different from anything you've seen
He likes to beat the bass drum for justice and salvation
He's got the brains of Einstein and brawn of Mister Clean
He's a lightnin flash who makes the dash from one coast to the other
To stop a crime or lend a dime or help his aging mother

Captain America we love you, Captain America you're grand

I honestly dont think that the US Government would let the public know that Cap was gone. Especially since he was gone during the war. The would do what they did in the comics. Keep it hush hush until they could find someone else to put in the costume.

I definitely like the idea of some vintage Captain America propaganda appearing in the film, and maybe even some of the vintage Cap comic books (although in the Marvel Universe the contents inside would presumably be different, for obvious reasons). In that sense, they could probably borrow a few ideas from Watchmen in that Captain America would be a pop culture icon very much the same way he was in real life, except that all of these things around him like posters, songs and comic strips/books would be inspired by an actual person, rather than simply being the creation of comic book artists and writers. I think it might be getting a bit carried away to have movie serials though, since I think that Cap appearing in the occasional news reel would fill that niche within the movie.

It would be interesting if they did include any of those classic comic covers/posters/toys of cap from the 40s in the film if it has a reason to be their.

They should use this song during newsreel and radio broadcasts in the background...It's a nice lil nod to the 60's cartoon and CA...

interesting thought. Clever idea. One that hadn't occured to me.

I like the idea of ALL the propoganda... (including the song)

I think that after his death, they replace him with a regular "joe" who plays the role and tries to be the best Cap that he can be...but it becomes evident over the years that he's not a Super Hero or Super Soldier, but rather a marketing/propaganda machine... and by the time the US enters Vietnam... the persona of Captain America is outdated to the general population (like Uncle Sam or Howdy Doody) The very legend of Captain America takes a huge hit and he is thought of as more of an urban legend. There are those who saw him in action and tell the stories of how awesome he was...and everyone's heard from their brother's girlfriends's uncle.... But the general consensus is that he was just a guy in a suit...

...But some people in the military and higher up in government know the truth because they have been working on duplicating the formula for decades without success. SO...when they find Cap... it's a HUGE triumph for not only Shield and the Avengers... but for those american soldiers who told stories of his heroics... they'll feel vindicated too.

I think it'd be cool as **** if the movie started with this song played over a montage of all the Captain America merchandise and newsreels and propaganda and kids reading comics with him and all. Then once the montage ends, we switch to a more gritty tone with maybe Captain America in a helicopter, preparing to drop out for battle or already in battle. This scene would take place like midway through the movie with narration by Cap or Nick Fury talking about him. After the scene, flashback to Steve's origins and start from the start, before this all happened.

I think something like that would be neat.

Rage
You've really been putting out there some good ideas lately Rage! I'd really like to see this be the route that they take.

There;s absolutely a place for it in the movie, and as others have suggested, a propaganda film sounds the most plausible. Remember this from the Rocketeer?:-

Johnson's shown that he's not adverse to sticking something like that in there.

Ya know, I freakin' LOVE The Rocketeer! I must admit that I enjoyed it back when I first watched it upon it's initial release, but when Johnston was announced as Captain America's director I bought it and have watched it several times. I love it more with each viewing! The whole movie is really great IMO. If Cap follows in the same atmosphere and the cast & script are just as solid, then I feel that we could have an instant classic on our hands! Down with all the haters!
