When suspension of disbelief just wont cut it?

Still sayin'...rocket launching Penguins...

One part that kills me near the end of Spider-Man 2 is when Spider-Man and Mary Jane swing away from that destroyed warehouse. With the angle of the shot and knowing where the warehouse was, what the hell did Spider-Man shoot his web on? It came off as kinda sloppy by Raimi.

In Attack of the Clones, at the battle against Dooku, Yoda walks in with a cane while limping...Then does all kinds of crazy flips...Then limps with cane again.

He used the Force. :o

That was both a corny joke and a serious answer.

I'm reminded of the Chinese magician in The Prestige...

I agree that he Used The Force. Doesn't mean it wasn't a dumb idea.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I assumed Yoda gave the illusion of being weak and feeble when he really wasn't. I mean, this is the same character who will (decades later) pretend to be completely silly and wacky when Luke runs into him in a swamp (assuming Yoda hadn't actually gone senile by then).

It happened back in the 70's....I might be one of the few here who actually read the story. It was one of those books that Marvel put out at the time....with titles like CREATURES ON THE LOOSE, FANTASTIC TALES, etc....where they guest starred different characters....the BEAST had his solo 6-10 issue run in it, and he was changed in the first issues he was in.

Oh ok, I don't think I ever read those issues, but now that you mentioned it, I might have to see if those are available.

Anyways, back on topic I don't think I've heard anyone mention Jason Stathams fall at the end of Crash, especially him talking on the cellphone as he was falling.

What's even worse is in Transporter 2 when he flips the vehicle to attach the bomb underneath to that construction hook or whatever it was.

Let's not even get started on Crank 2, I'll have to watch Transporter 2 again before I call out specific scenes from that film

You mean Crank, right?

Star Trek - Captain Kirk being to beat any alien in a hand to hand fight including the Gorn that is strong enough to pick a boulder and throw it at him!

Kirk-Fu, my man. Of course, we all know the deadliest martial arts move known to man is when you put your fists together and hammer someone between their shoulderblades. ;)

When it came to the Crank films I had no problem suspending disbelief with most of it because the movies were basically real life video games.

With a film like Transporter 2 it's supposed to be a semi-serious action film. It's easier for me to face palm that movie than it is for the Crank films.

The Crank stuff felt more "over the top" because of the violence I guess... I think if the Transporter films were as violent, you would have been ok with the ridiculous stunts...

Has anyone mentioned Wolverine's mind-eraser bullets?

Was that as ridiculous as Gambit's helicopter stick?

You ever read a Spider-man comic? He swings from invisible ledges all the time...

They never explained that the webs disappeared after one hour too...

Exactly, the Crank films aren't meant to be taken seriously.

And how about Mission Impossible 2 when Ethan Hunt and Thandie Newton (can't remember her movie name) are driving in the beginning and then the slow motion of the two cars swiveling as the two gaze into each others eyes. :whatever:

Like many of the critics who panned it,ya don't get it.

Not to belatedly respond to this two weeks ago (I was reading through the thread since it resurfaced and saw this), but huh? It was a movie that celebrated that because our judicial/legal system is flawed, it thought "Hey it would be cool if somebody tried to tear it and the whole government system down."

It was supposed to be hip in imagining an anti-hero who would spend the whole film murdering government workers and employees, but because his family was brutally murdered he is vindicated and fun to root for. Especially when he says things to the cocky, elitist DA that "I'm going to bring this whole thing down. It's going to be Biblical."

Except, it is a juvenile rendering of the same ideas The Dark Knight explored a year earlier. Nolan didn't fall for the trap in turning the Joker into a hero with easy "**** the man" and "fight the power" tropes. He made the Joker's ideology of anarchy very appealing and seductive...but it was misleading and dishonest at the end of the day. LAC goes for a more shallow understanding of the same ideas.

And since I know a number of government employees, seeing DA staffers and judges who had nothing to even do with Jamie Foxx's decision at the beginning of the movie being murdered did not make me cheer Butler.

I'm not trying to pick another fight with you, but as someone who knows public servants, I found the sentiment of the movie very unsettling and dishonest. Just my opinion, of course.
