A couple of months. I was doing some research. I've got this theory that the Arab expansion into Persia was the world's first example of Colonialism.

How can I become smarter? I usually only rent comics. I want to be smarter. Where can I start for a guy who doesn't read much? Science, politics I know nothing about nothing except sports? Help me so I can have meaningful conversations with people.

Have you tried school? Smartass comment out of the way, definitely hit up wikipedia, but check for sources in the articles. It will be little numbers that will take you to a link to the source. Hit up some popular science books or popular history books. They will be the ones that don't look like petrified school books. Neil deGrasse Tyson and Brian Greene are good at bringing astrophysics down to laymen levels and they use popular culture and normal everyday ideas to relate the stuff. Just start googling and hitting up your local book store, and you'll find something that grabs you.
