not LOR. critics thought it was a spectacle and it was in terms of visuals. but the script was not original, and where it differed from the original work it was usually worse. IMO Fellowship was actually the best of the trilogy and the awards ROTK got were essentially for cumulative work rather than the groundbreaking impact of ROTK
honestly it's the Matrix. that flick is practically the movie that singlehanded built AICN.com and the reviewers were BLOWN away not only by the visual style but the message and technical aspects of the movie. people LOVED that movie and had never seen anything like it
for anyone under 25 the Matrix reference goes over your head but the thing about TDK is it's genre-breaking like the matrix. it's not just a comic book movie or an action movie but something that's just a great movie and something beyond anything you've seen before
Wall-e. got good reviews but is it even the best Pixar movie ever? Is it better than Nemo or the Incredibles even?
Iron Man was a good summer flick but it was good based on low expectations. no one expected it to be any good after Ghost Rider, FF2 and that crap. It's not a great movie, just something the studio expertly timed to release at a good slot on the calendar and something that turned out better than the crap that people were expecting. it was funnier than expected, looked better than expected, and it blew up arabs and terrorists... it basically delivered what people wanted for a summer flick so props for that but it isn't a movie people are going to look back at in 10 years and think it shaped the genre
