Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Where do we go from here? [TWS Spoilers]

I was hoping the AOS team would make a cameo in Winter Soldier, in their plane, being shot out of the sky.
Probably we will get the reverse, the team listening Captain America's call to arms, while on a mission.

^ And of course, Coulson (being Coulson) takes Cap's call to arms to heart, and has his team stand by his hero.

Just a thought here, but if my memory is right doesn't Tony Stark become head of SHIELD at some point in the comics?

We know now that there is an avengers tower, and with Hill now at Stark Industries, it it possible that they build up to a new SHIELD or some sort of new division of the organisation?

Stark is director of Shield after Civil War, if memory serves...

Nice call, but I think right now, Coulson is the highest ranking member of Shield, and probably founder of the new SHIELD

thats actually a good point, you're probably right. As we've got 7 more episodes to go, if will have to deal with the team building up on something. Especially with all these new agents popping up throughout the series

Given the role of command that Cap takes in assembling the non-corrupt SHIELD members against Pierce's group, I'd assume that he'd probably be the new head of any "new" SHIELD popping up post-TWS. Coulson would likely have a high-ranking position in any event.

At first I was thinking what a jerk move the films did to basically cripple the concept of the show before the first season was even over.

But thinking about it, they had to know this going in, because Winter Soldier was written and i think even filmed before the show even started airing.

And thinking about it, people have complained that the show focused too much on Coulson and his rag tag misfit team having adventures out of their super plane and not focusing enough on "Big Shield" to the point that it barely felt like Agents of Shield at all.

But
This makes perfect sense if they knew from the start that Big Shield would be taken down halfway through the season. So they didn't use it much because they didn't want people to get used to it and they'd have to drastically change the concept of the show when Winter Soldier came out and depending on what happens either Coulson's team become rebels, or Shield still operates but with a drastically reduced influence and staff following Winter Soldier

So really it might not change to drastically at all.

It's going to change their mission structure though - they have no-one to call in like Garrett or Hand, and we won't see them visiting various SHIELD bases. I'm leaning more towards AoS rebuilding SHIELD - the Triskelion went down, but the other installations all remain, and presumably Hydra-free

Again though, they barely do that to start with.

In 15 episodes they've been to the Hub the Slingshot, and the Academy all of once each. They've only used Shield back up I think 4 times (Hand's team, Garret, the Chinese team, and the squad of female agents in Yes Men) and two of those times with Hand and Garret they didn't even want their help, they just kind of showed up.

So while in theory this should change everything, in practice Team Coulson goes it alone 2/3rds of the time anyway. If anything this just gives the show staff a good excuse to not have to bother writing other Shield guys into the episodes.

The only thing I see this effecting is their resources and their ability to go and do whatever they want (Ie: no more Coulson flashing a Shield badge and being able to take over any random investigation or get into any restricted space)

there are so many agents still faithful to the captain, they're te wealthy side of the SHIELD

Really beginning to think they should have had a throwaway line at the end of TWS with Cap saying something about the fate of SHIELD - its obviously not all gone, so who's in command? Him?

That kind of reminds me of the Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood. They started as a massive organisation that did the same things like SHIELD, but then became a single group consisting of 5 members that work outside the government/system.

AoS could still work with Coulson and the other
non-Hydra
members but without backup and a new goal
spy/monitoring/infiltrating Hydra
.

I always assumed Maria Hill would join the cast of AoS for Season 2 once HIMYM ran it's final season. Do you think this is still a possibility? Will Coulson's team need to go through
Stark Ind from now on for financing where Hill would be a liason?
Or do you think we won't see her until Avengers 2?

Seems a waste to cast a TV actress and not enjoy the benefits of her being open to TV. The status quo may be thrown out the window for now but a series can't afford to be unstable for too long. There will be a new equilibrium by next season (assuming it gets one) and Maria Hill could have a place there.

Someone on another site mentioned that Smulders has moved to New York where her husband works and thought that meant we wouldn't be seeing much of her...

But aren't all the new Netflix shows being shot in New York? They could easily use one of those teams for a quick scene or fly her over for a week.

Yeap, they are filming in NY... I can totally see her showing up in Jessica Jones

Whew, just saw TWS. Where we go from here is simple:

Firefly. This show has been a spiritual successor to Firefly in more ways than one from the beginning. Now they truly are on their own, they pick the ops. As far as Coulson is concerned "We're all that's left of SHIELD." Name stays the same. TWS actually did them the *favor* of freeing them from having to make sense with the films. There's no longer any "Why does SHIELD do this on TV, but this in the films?" concerns. AoS is completely it's own thing.

TWS's post credits scene also made sure that it was clear that there were plenty of Hydra pockets dotted around everywhere to deal with. Fun times.

Yep, the show's potential now is limitless, and its place in the MCU more important than ever. Exciting times ahead

Anyone thought Hill approached Stark with a request for funding AoS's operations so we have them communicating with Hill at various points during Season 2?

After all he did serve as a Director of SHIELD do you think he'd pass on the opportunity to help the sundered SHIELD continue operations until they can regain their standing?

Would also explain why Hawkeye isn't apparently a member of SHIELD in Avengers 2 if SHIELD technically isn't supposed to exist...

in the comics when SHIELD was shut down due to the events depicted in"nick fury versus SHIELD" the organization was succeeded by STRATIGIC ACTIONS FOR EMERGENCIES[SAFE]

She wouldn't have gone to the HR department for that. She was clearly being hired. Also, as far as we know, she was totally on board with dissolving SHIELD, and Tony Stark didn't care for SHIELD at all, and seems much more interested in having the Avengers do SHIELD's job. Coulson and co are on their own.

Also, Hawkeye probably left SHIELD for the same reason Eric Svelwig did, that brainwashing stuff makes you unfit for duty. Glad to see he's recovered though. No need for streaking through stonehenge for him... unless he's already done that or something, heh.

Hawkeye went and did some training in some snowy mountains and got a wolf blown up by a missile. It's all documented in the Bourne Legacy

I just wonder if the events of Captain America will be felt immediately, of if they will give it some time to let people see the movie. I mean, do they come out and say what happened four days after the release of the movie, or do they give people a couple weeks to catch up?

Ok so here are my thoughts and some questions I have about the ramifications of TWS:

The Triskelion and the HUB are one and the same right?

So since the only evidence we have of the Clairvoyant was him speaking on the computer screen last week
Does that mean Arnim Zola is one and the same? And if so is his conscience uploaded on the internet or was his main mind in the secret bunker that was destroyed and all that is left of him is the algorithm?

Since [BLACKOUT]Fury is going to Europe, Hill works for Stark, and Agent 13 works for the CIA how will Coulson and co have the resources to continue their mission?[/BLACKOUT]

Do we really think SHIELD is done for? I can't imagine they would have made a show about it since they always know where they are going. The events of TWS should that there are still plenty of good agents left, will we see a smaller SHIELD focused on destroying HYDRA?
