Where the Wild Things are.

I liked it a lot. Perhaps not as much as I thought I would, but I still liked it a lot. The kid who played Max did a good job. I thought at first that he started out obnoxious as hell, but I liked him more once he got to the island. I really liked the voice acting for the Wild Things, especially Gandolfini. What surprised me most about the movie was the dark turn it took at the beginning of the third act ([blackout]Carol going crazy, ripping off Douglas's arm and threatening to eat Max[/blackout]).
What the hell?! Haven't seen the movie yet, going later tonight, but I don't regret reading this. This is the kind of craziness that I actually do want to know about upfront.

I'm sure by the time you read this, you may have seen it already, but...

Basically what happens is Carol gets more and more agitated at that point of the movie, most notably at KW and Max. While he gets into a verbal confrontation with Max, he just snaps and suggests eating him. When Douglas tries to intervene, Carol rips off his arm (dust comes out). After that, Carol chases Max through the forest in a blind rage, threatening to eat him, but KW hides Max before Carol can find him. Douglas treats his arm being torn off very nonchalantly. He even replaces it with a twig later, which I found to be darkly humorous.

well does Carol chill out at the end? what happens?

The ending, EXTREME spoilers:

Max goes back to Carol's secret hideaway to say goodbye. However, Max sees that Carol has destroyed the beautiful model Carol has made of the island that Carol showed Max earlier. This is eerily similar to how at the beginning of the movie, after Max's igloo got destroyed and his sister went off with her friends, Max went into his sister's room and made a mess and also destroyed an arts and crafts present with a heart and the names of himself and his sister in it.

Carol eventually goes back to the room and sees some twigs in the ground in the shape of a heart and a C in the middle for Carol. The other Wild Things see Max away on his boat. Carol runs to the shore and apologizes and says his goodbye to Max in tears by howling which Max returns.

 nice, thx

LOVED IT! I haven't liked a movie this much in awhile. It was truly amazing. There was even applause at the end in my theatre. Well Done Spike, Well Done

The emotions and truth about childhood that this film expresses is staggering to me. The personality it has is marvelous. The execution is masterful, whether it be the very good max records, or the terrific cast doing the voices of the characters, or Spike Jonze himself. It's always to see films like this and the films that pixar do that are supposed to be for children but don't cater to them. I can go in there and truly appreciate the themes and subtext going on, and it can remind me of actions that I did when I was 9 or 10. Kids need more smart films like this. It's truly beautiful.

so good or bad film? i enjoyed the book as a kid and i am curious to check out the film.

just got back, while not for everyone, i absolutely loved this movie! it woudnt say its a movie for children but a movie about children. the depth of this movie is truly amazing, i literally thought my way through the whole movie. i recommend it for anyone who is up for a provoking movie about childhood

Best way to sum up this film. The kids that were in my theatre were bored and antsy and kept talking and walking around. Some of them were scared by the bull and [BLACKOUT]when Carol went crazy[/BLACKOUT]. This is a film that is more or less for the generation that grew up on the book

I felt the film and the book conveyed the same emotional content. This film is hands down the best adaptation I've ever seen

Enjoyed it quite a bit. Great voice acting and overall great movie. I was very satisfied.

I absolutely loved it. Was definitely moved by it and it was just so well made. Everything about it was beautiful and all the characters were just fantastic.

yeah, my wife and i walked into the theater tonight and it was like all kids. when the movie was over all the adults were shushing the antsy kids and trying to talk about the film. there is certainly enough fun/over the top action sequences for the kids to watch, but this film is more brain than it is brawn

I loved that the Wild Things all conveyed emotions. They weren't just plot devices or just items for Max to interact with. Alexander was the guy that everyone kind of ignores and doesn't listen to, which is something we can all relate too. Judith's jealousy is something we can all relate to as well as Carol and everything he puts across. I would have to say the Wild Thing that intrigued me the most was the Bull. I loved him and can't figure out why.

I agree. I didn't feel like a film that was going to insert action or excitement for the sake of excitment.

Yeah, movies that are somewhat on the slow side is not really made for the young set...they do need that constant action/excitement/comedy to keep them focused. I know we all claim we weren't like that when we were kids, but we all were.
