What the hell?! Haven't seen the movie yet, going later tonight, but I don't regret reading this. This is the kind of craziness that I actually do want to know about upfront.I liked it a lot. Perhaps not as much as I thought I would, but I still liked it a lot. The kid who played Max did a good job. I thought at first that he started out obnoxious as hell, but I liked him more once he got to the island. I really liked the voice acting for the Wild Things, especially Gandolfini. What surprised me most about the movie was the dark turn it took at the beginning of the third act ([blackout]Carol going crazy, ripping off Douglas's arm and threatening to eat Max[/blackout]).

Basically what happens is Carol gets more and more agitated at that point of the movie, most notably at KW and Max. While he gets into a verbal confrontation with Max, he just snaps and suggests eating him. When Douglas tries to intervene, Carol rips off his arm (dust comes out). After that, Carol chases Max through the forest in a blind rage, threatening to eat him, but KW hides Max before Carol can find him. Douglas treats his arm being torn off very nonchalantly. He even replaces it with a twig later, which I found to be darkly humorous.
Don't ruin it for yourself, Omid. Things resolve themselves.
The ending, EXTREME spoilers:
Max goes back to Carol's secret hideaway to say goodbye. However, Max sees that Carol has destroyed the beautiful model Carol has made of the island that Carol showed Max earlier. This is eerily similar to how at the beginning of the movie, after Max's igloo got destroyed and his sister went off with her friends, Max went into his sister's room and made a mess and also destroyed an arts and crafts present with a heart and the names of himself and his sister in it.
Carol eventually goes back to the room and sees some twigs in the ground in the shape of a heart and a C in the middle for Carol. The other Wild Things see Max away on his boat. Carol runs to the shore and apologizes and says his goodbye to Max in tears by howling which Max returns.
Best way to sum up this film. The kids that were in my theatre were bored and antsy and kept talking and walking around. Some of them were scared by the bull and [BLACKOUT]when Carol went crazy[/BLACKOUT]. This is a film that is more or less for the generation that grew up on the bookjust got back, while not for everyone, i absolutely loved this movie! it woudnt say its a movie for children but a movie about children. the depth of this movie is truly amazing, i literally thought my way through the whole movie. i recommend it for anyone who is up for a provoking movie about childhood

I felt the film and the book conveyed the same emotional content. This film is hands down the best adaptation I've ever seenyeah but this is Jonze´s vision that is BASED of the book....i mean, it was like....what?....10 sentences long? and well the book was more kid.....ish.

I agree. I didn't feel like a film that was going to insert action or excitement for the sake of excitment.yeah, my wife and i walked into the theater tonight and it was like all kids. when the movie was over all the adults were shushing the antsy kids and trying to talk about the film. there is certainly enough fun/over the top action sequences for the kids to watch, but this film is more brain than it is brawn
