If you saw Marley and Me, it's that kind of PG as far as the material. The humans as well as the wild things have some pretty thematic moments among themselves...people may start shedding tears at one point.

I say thats a good thing because 80's PG-13 films actually had balls while todays PG-13 stuff is just watered down and lame. I still say a film like Goonies would not and could not be made today.

-Kids wouldn't be chased by bad guys holding guns/shot at
-every little detail would be over explained (ex. where Data got his "booty traps")
-Say goodbye to Sloth looking like a chud and being locked in a celler cuz thats abuse
-the pirates would come back to fight alongside the kids
-No explosive prison break at the start (especially not starting with the faking a suicide)
-Each kid is a different ethnicity and from a different country
-Chunk's weight problem isn't made fun of (and I doubt he even is the token fat kid)
-everything CGI
-The kids have to solve One Eyed Willies dance off
-Brand rides a motorcycle to track down the kids cuz bikes are for "sissys"
-Cameo apperances by todays "hottest stars"
-Awesome costumes that reflect each persons personality? No way..everyone wears black!

About the only thing that would survive is the nut shots.

The 80's was a completly differenent time and honestly, one of the best for "family films". Have you not seen what passes for family films these days? Pretty much what I listed. And yes like Nivek said, studios bow down to pressure of special interest groups. Thats why the trailer is striking such a cord with the adults here because it reminds them of the films they got to see growing up.

Today, try having an original idea like Goonies was back then and have it pushed through the Hollywood system. Garuntee it dosent make it through. Today a film needs to be based on a book, theme park ride,video game, t.v. show comic boo...uh I mean "graphic novel", or already existing film.

I don't think we are all that far off. Hell, just look at Sloth, that character alone wouldn't pass a studio script review in this current P.C. climate (if the original film never existed). A ******ed, deformed brute chained up by his murdering criminal family? Yeah, that may have some issues getting past parent groups, groups for the handicapped, and studio censors looking to bring in every tot they can, and will take a butcher knife to a directors vision just to make 20 loud mouth religious freaks happy.

Not to get Political, but by definition referring to someone as liberals imply they are more open to things. If anything, blame the conservative bible bashers that want the U.S. to be safe, clean, and christian for children so they don't grow up into mentally scarred sexed up godless liberals.

Eh, I don't know about that. The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings are all pretty ballsy PG-13.. just as much as anything from the 80's.

I wouldn't call any of those ballsy PG-13 movies. The Dark Knight had almost no blood or swearing. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies were soft PG-13 at best, save for a couple of things involving Davy Jones in the second and third ones. The Lord of the Rings had violence, sure, but most of the blood and stuff came from the orcs. The only heavy thing I remember was the catapaulted severed heads in the third movie. Not saying any of those movies weren't good, but they were nowhere near a level that would warrant an R rating. Titanic was a more ballsy PG-13 movie. That had boobies and an f-bomb.

Filmmaker Spike Jonze is hoping his forthcoming movie Where The Wild Things Are is a box office hit - because he hasn't been paid for the four years he spent labouring over the project.
The director is currently putting the finishing touches to the film, a big screen adaptation of the popular children's book by Maurice Sendak.
And Jonze is hoping audiences will love the movie and flock to see it in droves when it is released in October - so he can finally earn a paycheque for his efforts.
He says, "I've been working on the same movie for four years and basically haven't been paid anyway. When you break down how much you're making (over that time), yeah, it's kind of crazy."
"But yeah, this year I should probably get back to work on other stuff, and start making money again. I haven't made money in a long time."

It pushed the PG-rating to it's definite limit. I'm surprised because it really was knocking on PG-13 content and language.

I've only seen the poster and learned that Aniston and Wilson were starring in it. So, that kind of made me worried because of their resume in films. But, it's nice to hear from somebody that it was a good movie. I might rent it sometime, to tell you what I think.

^Agreed. Finally caught the trailer and it looks incredibly impressive.

I remember reading the book over and over when I was in the 3rd and 4th grade. I fell in love with the artwork, and the efforts of Jonze, the cinematographer and art direction has paid off...it looks like it lept right off the page!
