where were the vast protectors of the universe when kyrpton exploded?

i was talking with a friend of mine and she made a joke saying "where was the green lantern corps when krypton exploded". it was funny, but then i thought about it. where the hell were the green lanterns when krypton exploded? isn't it their job to protect and serve the universe? and even though there are no kryptonian green lanterns, the corps was still around and i'm sure there were other populated planets in rao's solar system where somebody very might have been a green lantern

Tomar Re was the GL of that sector. He holds Krypton's destruction as one of his greatest disappointments, knowing that he failed them. At least that's how it was prior to the new 52 continuity from what I remember.

Yep. Tomar-Re didn't make it in time. He was blinded on his way there, gaining his sight back just in time to see it explode. And there's not much he could have done anyway short of evacuating everyone. It's like asking why a cop doesn't stop an earthquake.
