Which future for Batman do you prefer?

I always favored The Batman Beyond future, like it or not Bruce Wayne can not possibly have a happy future. But Batman Beyond is just a bout as happy as he can have it, a son, still enforcing the law in some way, he may still be dark and grumpy - but this is the way he should be. I always hated how in DKR he has become what he once hated most of all - a killer.

batman should become a fascist dictator hell bent on removing everything he deems "evil" from the world.

Isn't he already?

You guys should check out Batman Year 100. It also takes place in the future and I freaking loved it.

Yup, it was good...very good.

Dark Knight Returns/Dark Knight Strikes Again: Would have been cool, but it no longer fits within continuity. Too much tweaking would be required to make it work. Modern Selina Kyle is not going to become a fat madame, Jason is not the last Robin, Nightwing is not going to turn out all ****ed up like that, etc. The world is not going to surrender to that kind of darkness.

Batman Beyond: If there is a new Batman, it will be Dick or Tim. At one time, Cass could even have filled Bruce's shoes. But not some no-name Terry McGuinness mother****er. Nice show, and it worked for the DCAU, but not in our house. Also, I'm uncomfortable with a Bat-future THAT ****ed up. All that wierd Dick-Babs-Bruce triangle crap, and all the other stuff...no. Batman was supposed to end up with Selina in that universe, and I was always pissed that it didn't happen. Of course, I think Batman should end up with Selina in the DCU too...

League of Batmen: Also could have been really cool, but the kid's not named Tallant. And he's a little punkass. No way does he grow up to defy Ra's like that.

Kingdom Come: This one could have been my top choice. For awhile it looked like Superman-Batman was making a concerted effort to make KC canon. But Wesley Dodds' death at the beginning is pretty important to the story--and Wesley already died.

Earth-2 Batman: This is yet another gem. He retires, becomes commissioner, and dies in one last heroic fight to save his fellow heroes. However, given the current Batman's outlook, it's not likely to happen. When he has to retire, he'll continue running things like in KC.

Titans Tomorrow: This one, I think, has already been cancelled. The Big Three didn't die in the Crisis. I'm pretty sure this one's out of the picture, and good riddance to it. It was an interesting possibility, but it's gone now.

In the end, it's not a matter of what future I'd prefer, it's a matter of which one is most likely to happen, if DC ever decides to make one official: it has to be the One Million future, also compatible with the Legion of Super-Heroes future. These are futures with well-established ties to current continuity. They're going to happen. They're not the futures I'd have chosen, and if people could let the Legion drift off into an alternate universe or timestream and stop this incessant time**** that the DCU always has going on, maybe this wouldn't have to be the future. One Million could be retconned out by any number of perfectly explainable phenomena involving Hourman.

If they could come up with another character death to be similar to Wesley Dodds' in Kingdom Come, I'd choose KC as my favorite alternate future. That's just me.

I enjoyed the hell out of Batman Beyond. The Return of The Joker is ****ing fantastic.

ROTJ was cool, but other then that, I'm not a huge Beyond fan.

Yea, it does. I got the Batman Beyond Season 2 DVD when it came out and watched it immediately. Man do I love the Timmverse.

Timmverse has some of DC's greatest moments in it. Now if only they could do DKR in it....

At age 70 Bruce is so torn up by Joker son, that he's not able to continue to be Batman. There for he's hooked up to a cybernetic computer and controls numerous Bat androids throughout Gotham City. While contineuing to build himself an ultimate new body. :o
Did you just make that up?

I know it sounds stupid, but I always thought he'd suit up in the classic suit just once in BB, and the thought of that was what kept me watching. Anyone else?
Yes...:csad:...actually, I heard he did once, and I never watched all the episodes. Confirm/deny, anyone?

Brad meltzer, current writer of the new JLA series was Quoted in Wizard as saying that he considered DKR to be continuity, and was writing JLA with that in mind.
I'm sure he'll enjoy explaining how Batman retired after Jason died. You know, since that totally didn't ****ing happen.

I like it, Crazy! It so different and completely cyberpunk.
Cyberpunk. Now there's a word that should never, ever, EVER be associated with Batman.

Goddamn trendies.

They sorta did.
If you mean the Legends of the Dark Knight episode then it's out of continuity but I can kinda see DKR in Beyond, the Jokerz are the freaks and his cockpit is kinda the same and the city's similiar.

DKR is not only the best bat-future comic but the best Batman comic I've read, so I choose that one.

I'd say have DKR and BB in the same continuity, just have BB take place after DKR. :)

How is cyberpunk a trend? It's been around for more than 20 years.

But I wouldn't want it associated with Batman either.

I'm sorry? Did you perhaps mean something other than DKR? Maybe I'm ******ed, but I don't remember him actually killing anybody.

It's only fashionable every few years or so, for a little while, and then it retreats back into the depths of hell for awhile.

How about blending the two?

What if Bruce met Terry in DKR instead of Cassie? Then, after combating Superman, a now permanently crippled Bruce hands the mantle over -- and we are 'Go' for Beyond! Only this time, Terry has the left-over street kids as an army of intel operatives, using them to covertly gather information and evidence, and occasionally as shock troops (ala DKSA) for those especially hairy confrontations.

Thoughts? Comments?

-- END!

A blend is the only way to take the things we like and fit them together.

I like this version ^ but I'd keep a female Robin who becomes the 'Batman'Beyond, and I'd add a few things;

Selina retires with Bruce after he fakes his death and they become companions in their old age.

Old villains for ex. Killer Croc and Bane help with the training.

There are no more SoB's. All the new kids are bright and shiny Robins.

Talia & Cassandras network becomes stronger. Joker's death makes him an immortal hero for thousands of messed up kids. Bane's venom is sold on every corner. Jason Todd is Gothams crime lord.
