Yea the role of Drax doesn't require a great actor really. But Johnson would have to be a bit more understated and grim, almost mute really. But his physical presence, that's not something that's easy to come by.

I think Quill needs a big name actor, someone who has a strong presence and is a bit older and world weary. I've seen someone mention Noomi Rapace for Moondragon, that could work. Or even as Gamora would be interesting.

And Rocket has gotta be voiced by Hoskins or Winstone.

Yeah, I'd hope that they get a real leading man to play the leading man....Starlord needs charisma to center the movie. Thinking outside the box a little, I wonder how Nolan North might work in live action --- he's already been a damn good leading man in several successful VG franchises, including Uncharted and Assassins' Creed.

I love Nolan North. But i think GotG needs some bonafide A-Listers, specifically for Quill. It's gonna be a hard sell, and a big budget. Get some actors/actresses in there that have their own fanbases and will raise eye brows amongst the GA.

I can see them adding Nova to GotG.

Damn straight.

If I got to see a cinematic version of a) Nova b) Quasar or c) Mar-vel I'd be a happer camper. Dudes like that are just tailor made for a sci-fi extravaganza.

If they did include Nova, I'd actually be inclined to have him replace Peter Quill as team leader ( sorry, Starlord fans! ).

Nooooooooooooo! You can't replace Starlord. Not just because he is awesome, but because he and Rich have a great chemistry together. It'd be great to see them both on screen together.

If Nova is in the film it won't be Richard Rider. It'll be Sam Alexander, who they are using now in the comics and USM cartoon.

Marvel has a comic out now called "Avengers Assemble," which more or less follows the MCU version of the characters. What's interesting about that as it pertains to GOTG is that the current ish, #6, features GOTG on the front teamed up with MCU Avengers (Cap, Thor, IM, Hulk, Hawkeye, Widow). To me, that shows a very good chance that this is the GOTG lineup they want to use for the film.

And if that's the case, the MCU lineup would be Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Bug and Starlord.

And it's also interesting that Avengers Assemble #6 features MCU Avengers and GOTG teaming up to fight Thanos. 'Nuff said.

I wouldn't mind seeing Drax and Gamora, but I want the original Drax the Destroyer and I want Gamora to start off as an assassin for Thanos.

Groot +Rocket = GOld

These are the ones I am worried about! How in $%^& is Marvel going to do these characters and put them up on the big screen? A Raccoon, really? :wow: Try explaining that to the GA! I'm kind of worried that if this movie is not done right it won't sit well with the GA and besides alot of explaining will have to be done so the GA can know that they are part of the same universe as the Avengers.

I don't know, I just don't want a movie that is going to turn out to be a GL fiasco.

The GA has accepted more outlandish things than a talking Raccoon before. You just make him a total bad ass, voiced by someone like Ray Winstone or Bob Hoskins, give the film a surreal comedy vibe and it should be ok.

Yeah, you're right! The GA never bought the numerous crazy aliens in Star Wars, Star Trek or Men in Black!:whatever:

Again, just watch performance capture characters like Paul, Golem and Caesar and I think it illustrates that these characters can be a boon to a film rather than hinderance.

A dedicated creative team, a solid story and great acting could easily win an audience that is already thirsty for comicbook level fantasy.

It's not hard to see that this could easily be a Star Wars level space opera Marvel style.

I'd like to see Adam Warlock (connection to Thanos, Avengers), Starlord, Nova, Racket Raccoon, Gamora and maybe Darkhawk (make him like a Boba Fett. Awesome and in the background). I'd make the villain Thanos. That way you could flesh out Thanos, and maybe even throw characters like Starfox in as well. Introduce the Titans. I'd also love to see them reference as many other planets and races as possible.

Must have: Show the Celestials.

Agreed, and at this point, if you make him badass enough, everyone is gonna think a talking racoon is awesome.

It has to be played for comedy, make him crazy awesome in the sense that he wouldn't be as badass if he wasn't a raccoon, and play it for laughs enough that people get comfortable with it. If you expect them not to get stuck on how ridiculous it is, then we need to go get our money back from all those creature designers who go out of their way to make sure aliens look/feel "realistic" and natural feeling, but different than anything on earth, so that people will accept them. If all you do is make him badass, people are going to be turned off, like they were with Green Lantern.

Groot is a little easier, since he can be designed so people don't say "what the heck is a talking tree doing in space?" and even so, ostensibly, any life supporting planet has trees.

Exactly. But he can still be awesome! I imagine, once he's been established we can have hilarious little moments like: "Rocky, you take care of the guards." "Oh, look, a cute little raccoon!" BLAM BLAM. "Taken care of." - Also forsee several severe super-agile hand to hand maulings against foes who simply can't find his hitbox, along the lines of Yoda in Episode II (or playing Rocket Raccooon in MvC3). Give the 'walk away from explosion' scene to him (again, using his agility and size to plant a lot of explosives against a superior foe). As long as you lampshade the 'yes it's a talking earth animal in space, yes it's supposed to be funny' in his introduction that'll pretty much cement him as the Rocky we all know and love. So in the end when he starts pulling out even more incredible guns, no one asks "what, how was he carrying that around?" they just go with it. He's crazy awesome, he's not meant to be 'realistic' he's meant to be ridiculously badass. Mission accomplished.

I think the Avengers Assemble lineup is a little light. I do like Drax, Gamora and Star Lord, but I'd much rather anyone (Warlock, Groot, Nova, Phyla Vell) than Bug. I think Star Lord will obviously be the audience 'in' and he'll start the movie as a normal human astronaut and end it by leading the Guardians to victory.

Who do you guys think they'll be fighting.

Well i don't think they should have origins in this movie. Just some maybe surreal comedy flashbacks to how they got to where they are.

I'm not sure who the villains should be, to be honest. Maybe investigating a massing of an alien army, which links in to Thanos or something.

I wouldn't mind them using the Kree as villians, and introduce Ronan. I'd also really like Nova to be involved in come capacity.

Personally I think it's kind of formulaic and cliche to use RR for comic relief. I would rather not see another Kung Fu Panda. RR has developed much more as a character and deserves better. I really think Marvel needs to be way outside the box on this one.

How much of the cosmic universe could Marvel use ? I'm guessing the Shi'ar would be a no go because of their X-men connections, no Skrull empire either...

The Kree seem like ideal choices for an opposing faction.
