I'm sure that, like many of you, some of us on SHH are currently attending college, part-time or full-time, or looking at attending soon.
So I'm looking for scholarships to apply for, and I'm sure some of you are, too. So let's post some listings here, rich folks who offer money to struggling student types..

I'll start, with an obvious guy, Bill Gates-

..But maybe you know of some obvious or not-so-obvious people. Reportedly, millions in scholarship money goes unclaimed or un-applied for every year. Every little bit helps, leave no stone unturned.. :word:

To any who are college bound:

As someone who attended college, do NOT underestimate the value of scholarships. Apply to as many as you possibly can. Spend so much time looking for and applying to scholarships that you start to question your desire to even go to college. If you do not, you WILL regret it. I promise you. I'm paying $1300 a month in student loans because I didn't take scholarships as seriously as I should have.

Braylon Edwards of the 49ers offered 100 students a 10,000 scholarship if they graduated with a 2.5

79 did it and he kept his word

I don't know another rich person who offers scholarships, but in the Financial Aid office at schools they usually have a long list of scholarships. You do need to take your time to write some essays and stuff but it's worth it. The money is out there.

As a fellow college-bound poster, I should warn you, if you're applying for need-based financial aid schools usually take scholarships out of your aid package. They will start by taking it out of your loans but at a certain point they'll start taking it out of your grants. I'd recommend seeing your aid package first, and if it's a mostly grant-based package then I'd advise against applying for scholarships. If you do mostly get loans, however, fastweb.com is a good resource.

Also, don't be afraid to pander to the financial aid office! I applied to a school that doesn't give merit aid and is notorious for giving loan-heavy packages so we gave them a sob story and asked for more grants than loans because our credit is atrocious. The result: $18,000 a year with $3,000 in loans, including room and board (this is a school with a ticket price of upward of $50,000 in NYC so I'd say that's a pretty sweet deal).

How much is your total student loans all together?

Including projected interest, just over $100,000. Note I also chose not to consolidate my loans because whatever interest rate at the time will be locked, which due to the economy right now, the interest rate is terrible. I'm waiting until the rates go down.
