^ Bingo.

Venom was/is a typical "cool" character.

He's cool looking. He has one liners. And because he's big and ugly that means he's the most evil, right?

Venom was awesome when your 12 or 13. But when you grow up you really see what a weak inconsistent and one dimensional character he is. But he looks cool, right?

Thats exactly what I learned. I could go on about Norman, Harry's or Otto's (heck, even Smerdyakov's) background or psychological profile. As for Eddie, he lost his job and he's crazy. Yes, his father was a creep. But thats about it. That and all the powers added to the symbiote became ridiculous.
Invisibility.
Webbing.
Strength enhancement.
Survives being hit by a train/riddled with bullets.
Can send the symbiote over the internet.
Can track its offspring.

What am I forgetting?

Can track its offsrping once, actually.
Oh-it can morph & alter its appearance.

superman
arch nemesis - lex luther
dark opposite - bizarro

spider-man
arch nemesis - GG
dark opposite - venom

batman
arch nemesis - joker (could be argued ras al ghul)
dark opposite - lady shiva

in each case the arch nemesis is much more interesting and engaging because they tackle the hero on a psychological level rather than the physical level of the dark opposite

Not to turn this into a Batman discussion, but the dark opposite for Batman could be Joker or even Two Face in a way. But Shiva sounds good too.

Thats interesting. I never thought of that.

I would consider Ra's more his dark opposite.
But what about Wolverine? His archnemesis is his dark opposite.

I agree. A dark opposite has to be someone who shares things in common with the hero, but it's a dark twist on them.

It's why I don't think Venom is Peter's dark opposite. The only thing they share in common is similar powers. Octavius is the Peter Parker gone bad. Even Marvel shares that stance.

Quite right. No more than Bizarro is Superman's true dark opposite. A warped take on his same abilities, but that's it.
Another one: Professor X. Magneto is clearly both to him.

Green goblin aka norman osborne. He has tormented peter for a long time. Both physically and mentally

Spider-man's Arch Nemesis is Dr. Octopus.

Peter Parker's Arch Nemesis is Norman Osborne.

Many maintain this position. And while it's a truly understandable one, let's not forget that if not for GG, there'd have been no Hobgoblins, Demogoblin, subsequent Green Goblins, Jackal, Robot Master, or clones.
But I guess that's mostly indirect & you'd argue the clones were an attack on Peter's life, not Spider-Man's.

Goblin hands down. if goblin didn't cause a lot of pain and trouble for peter, then it would be ock. and venom to me is just peters darker conscience who wont stop until hes dead.
