If Supernova is Booster, then its quite easy for him to exist even though an earlier version (arguably) of himself died;
* Booster travels to the past expecting to be a member of the JLA after helping in the upcoming crisis.
* This doesn't happen, and time has begun to unravel.
* He starts to be a 'mercinary', for lack of a better word, and gets sponsorship deals and stages heroic actions.
* If he continues on this path he causes more and more deaths and becomes less and less of a hero.
Now at this point, Booster (who we will call Booster 2)in the future realises that he has to stop this from happening, by going back in time and becoming Super Nova.
* Booster 2 comes back in time with a new suit which gives him different powers. He takes the name Super Nova.
* Rather than releiving the stress that has built on Booster, it actually causes his downfall to occur in a much faster way.
* Booster 2 has created a divergant time line, which is a lot easier now that 'time is broken'.
* Booster dies, but Booster 2 survives due to the fact that when he traveled back in time Booster survived to become him.
Once someone jumps back in time, they are external to the time line. They have to be in order to bypass the laws of physics and actually travel in reverse through time. Because Booster 2 is out of linear time, he can't be affected by Booster's death. If her were to go back to the future, i'd guess then he would be affected, but as it stands, he is the survivor of a defunct time line protected by the very fact that he came back.
And i'll point out, that however stupid and out there that this reads, Grant Morrison was and is one of the people involved in the 52 story plan. So, expect it to be a tad weird
