Comics who is your all time favorite spidey artist?

Jazzy John Romita. His Spidey is just awe-inspiringly perfect.

Ditto.
Perfect is the right word to use.

I have more thane one. My favorites are Steve Ditko and John Romita SR. two Amazing Spidey artists!!!. I can't really choose #1 because Steve Ditko and John Romita SR. have so much talent.

Im gonna have to go with John Romita Jr. on this.

Ron Frenz........uh, Todd McFarlane......John Romita Sr. and Jr......

I am not sure.

One of those???

Tough one for me.

There are certain things i REALLY like about each of those.

Todd prolly isn't a popular choice...have to read what everyone else here has chosen..........

Hard for me to pick exactly one favorite Spidey artist. There are just too darn many good artists that have drawn the webhead. So here goes:

John Romita
Sal Buscema
Steve Ditko
John Romita Jr.
Ross Andru
Tim Sale
Mark Bagley
Mike Dedato
Pat Oliffe

Yeh, I liked Larsen.

There've been a lot of good Spidey artists over the years.

I'm having a hard time picking one.

Bags is good too...

...hmn...I'm up to five or six now......lol....

I wanna add Mike Zeck and Frank Miller's eariler work. Larry Liber is another artist I like. His spidey is just simple.

I used to love JR JR, now I despise his art.

Same here. His early work is great, but he really went downhill. Over the years I've built up a tolerance to his artwork because I had to if I want to continue reading Spider-man. If you ask me, the apple fell very far from the tree. :down

I don't know what the hell the two of you are talking about but I seem to recall his Eternals miniseries he just did and the artwork he did in that was absolutely breathtaking. And his work in World War Hulk so far has been absolutely top notch. I think you guys are smoking crack or something.

I've never liked Romita Jr.'s style, myself. There's no big technical flaws about it (that I can notice, at least), I've just never been a fan. It's one of those preference things.

Honestly though, I simply can't fathom how anyone could prefer JrJr to his father's work. I mean, yeah, I get it, most people consider Jr to be a great artist, but Romita Sr just created the definitive look of the character. Not to mention had the art chores during quite possibly the best period of Spider-Man comics. No offense to Jr, but Sr was just the gold standard.

McFarlane
Larsen
Bagley
In Other words, I love the 90's. But I love the art from the 70's and 80's greatly, more so than the art of today. I hope we get some great artist

My favorite CLASSIC Spider-Man artist is John Romita. He was amazing... imagine seeing his art rendered as they do today, with the rich colors and shadings, printed on glossy paper...

I have to say some of the others that carried on his style were great too. I have so much admiration for the Spider-Man artists that have to draw the wild perspectives that come with Spidey's territory.

Because of the way the art is done today, with Photoshop for colors and the nicer printing, it's hard to compare the older art with more contemporary work without that being a factor... Looking at some of the inks with no color is a good comparison.

All that said, my FAVORITE Spider-Man cover... actually first and second... was done my Mike Deodato. I am in AWE of his work! So beautiful... dramatic... with just the right degree of realism.

I was able to enlarge these two covers (long story, but Deo himself provided me with a couple of high res files to use) and framed them to hang in my study.

We should turn this into an art thread, since they seem to have deleted the old ones... Who doesn't like looking at great pics of Spider-Man!? :)

Other examples of Deodato's work...

I think it was the second cover, the one from the other, I said it was such a good cover that I'd hump it. Mike is a great spidey artist. Thunderbolts, however, I just don't like that book.

Definitely check out Thunderbolts, Cap. Mike's most recent issue is phenomenal!

Deodato is the man. His rendition of Mary Jane has to be the sexiest, most beautiful i've ever seen.

There was this one issue during the "Skin Deep" arc where Peter goes to see her at the theatre. She's playing a part in a bedroom farce has got this corset thing on. And it's stunning and the writing is spot on too. Peter's reaction to seeing her is exactly what mine would have been. To the point where she has to cover her chest up with her arms! :woot:

Love his artwork on "Sins Past" too. She was so realistically beautiful!

Deodato certainly gets my vote for my all time favorite Mary Jane artist.

I'm starting to really appreciate Ron Garneys art, he bring a lot of dynamic to Spider-man

I'll always say Ross Andru, because I grew up on his Spider-Man, and even though he "copied" Romita Sr.' style, he'll always be my favorite, with Romita Sr. coming in for a close second.

Sal Buscema's run on Spectacular later on in his career was splendid to read as well. :word:

:yay:
