If it was up to you, who would you cast as the Martian Manhunter?

There are way too many people who could play Martian Manhunter, but these would be my top choices:

Dennis Haysbert

Djimon Hounsou

Lawrence Fishburne

and

Henry Simmons

This is whats interesting about Jonn, just about anybody could play him. Mainly because he himself can be anyone. But I think we should look more to actors who are more physical, who can give his martian form an interesting movement. And also maintain the interesting dynamic of stoic nobility of a superhero and the tragic past of Jonn himself. Definately going to need an actor with a tremendous range and depth in psychology and emotionallity.

He would make a very good John Stewart as well - however I want Jamie Foxx for that role.

Martian Manhunter would look better as a Cgi character in my opinion.

Dennis Haysbert should be Steel. Christopher Judge (Teal'C) from SG-1 would be an awesome J'onn Jones.

i had no idea such a creature existed! :wow:

Yeah... too many people have tried this one... imho, the most important aspect about J'onn is his voice. Manhunter isn't a physical character, and that's not his main form of expression... when J'onn speaks telepathically, it should be powerful. I think Dennis Haysbert is one of the best choices in here, though any listed so far would be great.

I also think a costume, of the quality and style of Hellboy or Thing in the movies would best fit such a personable character... of course CGI will be involved when J'onn flies or morphs, however I think him being there as a 'person' and not just a construct will go a LONG way towards making him relatable... tangible... real.

Make-up should be the only approach to Jonn, except when hes flying and morphing like you said. I'm getting tired of all CG characters. Hellboy was awesome, the Thing was great. Now lets bring Jonn to reality.

Hollywood would most likey go the CGI route. Beside if you do choose a live actor to portray MM on screen, what are you going to use, green body paint? Gives me flash backs to Incredible Hulk TV show

think of more like, Nightcrawler in x2, body paint look, wise (only in green)lol
and use CGI for transformation scenes, but, even with most fully CGI characters, there’s still usually an actor behind him, and you still need someone to do a voice over, or to portray him when he takes humane form

Dude... watch Hellboy. Prostetic make-up and paint can go a long way.

Besides, having real-life actors "interact" with an all-CGI character stiffles performances all around. They have to be inserted into a scene after it's already been filmed, and actors rarely seem like they're looking at them.

I mean Carl Lumby.

You mean Carl Lumbly, right? MM's voice on JLU? I agree, he'd be a good choice. As would Eamonn Walker.
