I still hear some people here mentioning how much they'd love to see an animated or live action movie based on the Frank Miller story. That's cool but personally, I feel that Mask of the Phantasm and Batman Begins pretty much covered it all.I'd welcome a Year One adaptation but would much rather see another classic storyline from the comics brought to the screen.

Agree?
Disagree?

i'd go see a Year One movie. an animated version would be interesting.

I think Batman's roots have been out on the open enough for the time being.
Batman Begins and Mask of the Phantasm covered enough of his past, and are both still fairly new adaptions.

Too much, too soon. Enough of the history. Let's see the bat kick some major arse already!

i do not want to see a comic storyline bought to big screen. What is the point in that? Besides, they are not really many stories worthy of a big-screen adap, besides DKR, which someone is bound to ruin. Or else they'll probably do the dumb sin City/300 thing by having green screens.

Year One is a good comic, but it'd be a VERY boring movie. We can thank our lucky stars we got Begins in stead of Y1...

You should see that YEAR ONE fan film that was posted here, they used some CGI and followed the comic panel by panel.

I'm cool with Batman Begins.

I can take or leave a CGI/animated Year One based on Frank Miller's story quite frankly.

I love to see Year One animated movie by WB, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini (sp?)

I'm not feeling the new animated series The Batman.

Never heard of that! Sounds cool though.

I wanan see it, I wanna see it!

"watches Batman Begins"

I saw it!

honestly I know, batman begins is year one!!! geez I know it's not like the comic but it's damn close

I'd like to see Aronofsky and Miller's Year One script made into a low budget film.

^ It would be interesting to see. Maybe it could be made as a Vigilante type story/film loosely base on their script?...

I would still like to see a Batman Year One movie only animated. Batman Begins pretty much covered certain elements on Year One in live action.

BB covered nothing from YO. I think it's funny how fans complain that adaptations are never close enough yet they go gah gah over BB claiming it so be "so close" to YO when it couldn't be any farther from it.

...it could be a lot further from it. but Begins doesn't claim to be an adaption of Year One so it doesn't really matter.

Both Goyer and Nolan had stated that they were using YO and TLH as the source material....which surprise surprise, BB had zero to do with either of those books.

Because the scene with the signal that attracts the bats and the ending were clearly from another Batman: Year One novel...

I am sick and tired of *****epickles like you trying to pick fights with people for liking BB.

Grow up.

Yes! A Year One movie directed by Frank Miller and David Fincher!

Those are really lame examples man...ok granted the ending was kinda close it still sucked. Next you'll tell me that since they used a watered down version of the roman that means they faithfully adapted TLH....

You ^ are a germ

Miranda you forgot to mention how YO first established the extent of corruption in Gotham which was crucial in BB and, in a fashion, Bruce's first failed outing.

Personally I would have preffered more aspects of YO in BB. In fact I don't think a loose adaption would have been as boring as Riven suggests ^. It would have been more palatable to general audiences and more scenes with Catwoman would have filled the comic book quota that Ra's and Crane provided. And Lucius, Chill and the Asian travels from BB could still be inserted.

I really don't like how Batman saved the entire city in his first escapade.

Oh, lookit - the troll wants to play with the grown-ups. How adorable!

Okay - you want to know why I used those specific examples? Because those were the scenes Frank Miller pointed to when he was asked about the Year One pieces that were used in BB. Now, are you trying to say he's using 'lame examples?' But if that is not enough for you, see Nepenthes post for further details.

I don't recall anyone ever saying anything in BB was directly adapted from TLH. But then, you seem to have a habit of making things up out of the clear blue sky, don't you? I did rather enjoy your claim about Goyer and his comments on the Joker because not only do I know he never said them (because, strangely, I actually am interested in finding out the truth. I'm a rather discerning philistine - I like to have my facts straight before I tell someone they're a lying asshat) but I actually know where it came from - it wasn't around the time BB came out, it did not come from David Goyer and it was in a fact a fan suggestion. Made on the Internet Movie Database boards.

So, that's your idea of facts, is it? Maybe you should try learning what that word actually means before you start accusing people of being lame. Congratulations on being a world class tardbox.

Sorry, Spider Kurt, I seem to have derailed your thread a little.

*ahem* I'd be for the idea of an adult animation based on Year One. That would be pretty awesome, if done right! :)

The Gordon characterization, the scene with device calling the swarm of bats, Flass, the presentation of Gotham City, the story taking place during Batman's first year :-)oldrazz: ) and the ending scene were all heavily influenced by Year One. and the Bruce/Batman characterization is very TLH

I wonder how it would change the preception fans have of the book though.

I mean, I like the book. But, I think it is a little overrated. It's more like Jim Gordon Year One, really. And, certain things, the lack of a batcave, the lack of the batmobile........those are things that would drive fanboys mad. And, the climax is sorta anti-climatic too......no Batman, but we get Bruce Wayne in motorcycle gear doing some fighting.

I think people would be mixed with it, probably attack the film for "being too true to the book" or some stupid thing.

I dunno, It'd be interesting.
