Batman: Year One

Hmmm. Sounds good. The Green Arrow Showcase sounds awesome!
Shouldn't they do a Flash DTV first,though?

saw it over in the other batman dtv thread. Cool news. Though i know folks are pissed its yet another batman dtv. But we know dc right now seems to be just batman solo, superman solo, superman/batman team up, or jl films. Hopefully some more other solo films will happen soon enough.

Yeah, I didn't see it in the other thread but I find this interesting.

DC/WB wants nothing but Bats/Supes/JL in their movies = Batman: Year One
DC/WB did want more of the lesser known DC characters = Batgirl: Year One

YES! My favorite Batmab story's getting animated.

You know, as good as Year One was, I find this news rather boring and slightly obnoxious. I mean really, ANOTHER Batman DTV? They're becoming a dime a dozen. I'd gladly sacrifice a thousand Batman DTVs for a Flash DTV. Lord knows the Flash needs it more than Batman does.

But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, seeing as how the 3rd Nolan Batman film is on the horizon.

As much as I'm anticipating Batman Year One, I have to agree... I want some Flash.

Honestly, at this point I'd even take another solo Superman movie. We haven't gotten anything for him and him alone since Doomsday (which sucked as far as I'm concerned). They're just overloading us on Batman, who, dont get me wrong, I love, but it's just a bit much when they could be focusing on any of the other big five (I'm limiting it to them. I dont have a problem with Aquaman, but do you really think that would make any money?! Be serious. If anything, he's a perfect example of why DC are doing the Showcase shorts).

After the disappointing sales of Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, Warner Bros. is going to wait to build those characters up as brands before going back to them.

Batman and Superman are already brands and the sales of DTVs starring them are a lot better than Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Green Lantern is being built up now. They'll focus on Flash next. And then Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

Exactly. Right now it's just a matter of waiting and being content with the fact that we'll be getting a lot of Batman/Superman/JLA for the time being. I think Green Lantern will be the start of things changing hopefully for the better.

Imagine this scene getting animated...

:fhm: :awesome: :woot:

yea it looks like we probably wont get other dtv features to we are in or close to official production for other guys.

From the DCU Source blog... Doesn't say anything about adapting Year One as a DCU animated feature but being featured in an article at the Source in commemoration for their 75th anniv. and 700th ish landmark kinda backs it up.

THE SIMPLE MAJESTY OF BATMAN: YEAR ONE
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

By Alex Segura

With BATMAN #700 upon is, we’re continuing our spotlight on all things Batman. Today, we look at one of the hero’s key stories.

Everyone knows what happened to make Bruce Wayne become Batman. But the story had never been told with such flourish and panache.

BATMAN: YEAR ONE, for me, is hands down the best piece of super-hero storytelling I’ve ever read.

The story features writer Frank Miller and artist David Mazzuchelli at the top of their games, in the wake of WATCHMEN and THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, reinventing and reinvigorating the classic concepts that made Batman an icon. Gotham. Commissioner Gordon. Catwoman. Bruce Wayne.

Telling the parallel story of a young Bruce Wayne learning the ropes as Batman and a young(ish) Jim Gordon entering the squalid pond that was the Gotham City Police Department, BATMAN: YEAR ONE brought an unheralded level of maturity and realism to a character that was already ahead of the curve. This Gotham wasn’t a dark but livable metropolis — it was a cesspool of crime and deception, with no light at the end of the tunnel. The GCPD wasn’t a stable of white knights battling back the evil elements — they were as corrupt as the “crime” they faced.

Enter Batman — fresh from his world travels and looking for meaning and a way to best defend the city that had swallowed up his youth.

Miller’s script is forceful and jarring, more Mean Streets and Godfather II than whatever preconceived notions people had about comic books at the time. Richard Lewis’ grays outweighed the blacks and whites to create a murky, between-the-lines pallor that matched the ethical murkiness of the characters and set the stage Mazzuchelli’s masterful artwork. His storytelling — frighteningly precise and beautifully fluid — makes you feel like you’re awkwardly cowering in the back of the room, as Batman slams a goon’s face into the ground. Cinematic stuff, for real.

A shattered window. A flying bat. A legacy born.

And, all the above aside, the highest compliment I can pay this book? Whenever a friend that doesn’t read comics asks me for something to get started with, this is what I hand them.

nice find.

Thanks, hope it gets confirmed soon but i have a gut feeling this might not be any time soon, hope i'm wrong, and if i have to guess... summer '12 to coincide w/ batman 3?? But since the dcu dtv is all bats/supes/jl centric anythings possible at this point.

I also realized why i feel its a bit too late for a year one dcu dtv because this would have been better when this was done instead of "Gotham Knight."

But like they say, "better late than never..." :oldrazz: :woot:

Other batman comic stories, besides year one, i'd like to see get the dcu dtv treatment are the ff: Batman and The Monster Men/Mad Monk and The Man Who Laughs. :fhm: :awesome: :word::cwink::woot:

yea it could be one of their down the road films. Since we got hood this summer/fall, batman/superman 2 next yr, there is probably another film that would be out prior to year one.

2011:

I think we'll have the new Green Lantern dtv (not the sequel to First Flight, but the tie-in one with the live action GL), The Flash DTV, and a sequel to Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. I just have a really strong feeling that they'll want to release a sequel to JL:CRISIS with Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern as the prominent characters in that one... just b/c those 3 will mostly likely then be the prominent heroes on WB/DC's list by the end of 2011.

I think that the short films that will be featured with those are Green Arrow with Green Lantern (it's just natural to have GA with GL), Blue Beetle with The Flash (just one of those characters that really needs a short, and he would fit really well with a Flash movie), and Aquaman with Justice League (seeing that he was introduced in Crisis and set up to return in a sequel, we'll likely be given some backstory on him in a short, I'd say.)

Wouldn't doubt if a sequel to Crisis was released to coinicide with the DVD release of the live action GL film, which I think will be released on DVD around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

2012:

If BATMAN/SUPERMAN 2 is successful then I think we'll get one last sequel that would both conclude an animated trilogy (which would be awesome IMO) and get people hyped about B3 and the Superman reboot, both of which will be getting a release in the same year.

Then Batman: Year One to coincide with the release of Batman: Knightfall (it's my fave title choice for B3, so I'm using it for now dammit!).

And then, of course, a solo Supes film to conincide with The Man of Steel release. Most likely an adaptation of "Superman: Birthright"... would only be a logical way to both promote the reboot well... and give fans a little more of what they want since TMOS won't be an origin story.

:hehe:

And just to speculate on what short films will be attached to those 3... I would say it'd either be Captain Marvel or Captain Atom with Bats/Supes 3.

For Year One and Birthright, I'd speculate that they'd want the short film to be directly related to main characters... just so they can promote the live-action films even further, I.E. a Catwoman short with Year One and a Supergirl short with Birthright.

Superman/Batman 2 is this fall, and a Green Lantern animated film is supposed to be out next summer. That leaves gaps for early 2011 and fall 2011.

^ Edited my post. Confused myself a little and accidentally wrote Batman/Superman 2 for 2011, lol. My bad!

According to Batman-on-Film the release date for the Year One animated film will be September 27, 2011.

Source: http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html

So, the schedule of releases for the next year would look like this:

Fall 2010: Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
Spring 2011: Unknown
Summer 2011: Untitled Green Lantern film
Fall 2011: Batman: Year One

Meh can't really trust BoF. :/

so basically Spring 2011 is going to be a Superman film? heh
