Whose eating Watchmen’s lunch and why?

In his interview at Movie-Con 2008 Dave Gibbons said he asked one of Zack Snyder’s associates “has Heroes eaten our lunch”, the response was “only Watchmen eats Watchmen lunch”. So I would put that a similar question to all of you. Who has done or could do something in television, film or other media to out shine or diminish the overall impact of Watchmen as a film or at least make the project a more difficult undertaking. Dave Gibbons mentioned Heroes the TV series and Pixar’s The Incredibles.
