Whose Smarter than this Teenage?

You know, I was just thinking about this while listening to the radio on the way home today. NPR was airing an interview with this post-doctorate scientist about some kind of squirrel that had evolved an unusually effective intimidation defense against rattlesnakes, and the guy said "irregardless." I cringed and literally yelled, "Come on, you're a ****ing doctor!" at my radio. I know the two fields are not related at all, and I know it's perfectly feasible for someone to be a complete prodigy in science or math but have terrible grammar or writing skills, but I think subconsciously I did dock the guy a few points on the genius scale when I heard him say that. Communication plays a big role in how I view people's intelligence without my even noticing sometimes, and I think that holds true for a lot of people.

Exactly.. George Bush's IQ is depending on the source, between 115-125. That makes him well above average. At the same time, he's a terrible speaker, so people think he's an idiot.

I don't want to get into politics, I just thought that was worth mentioning.

Dude, you can't imply that George Bush is an intelligent person, and then cap it off with "I don't want to get into politics".

Well, people think he's an idiot for more than that at this point, but I don't want to get into politics either. ;)

An irresponsible person with a terrible value system, does not an idiot make.:oldrazz:

I'm quite liberal, but I would't go as far as calling him an idiot.

Sort of the way I'm willing to conceed that Hitler was a genius, despite being evil incarnate.

It goes beyond anything you could ever defend him from.

Why would I defend him? I didn't vote for him. I don't like him. But you don't get into Yale with an 89 IQ, even if your dad is a multi-millionare.

As far as their degrees there is a huge difference in their situations. Reed was a rich kid with no powers who has nothing to do but study and soak up knowledge and awards. Peter as a high school student was already Spider Man. He was spending a part of every night patrolling and the frequent super villain battle. He would come home tired and injured and manage to study even with the distraction of the pain. And to top it off he was helping to pay the bills so he had to worry about money on top of everything else. I have never heard anything about Doom's life before college except as a kid when his parents died. Presumably though he had nothing to do but study and probably work a mundane job. No fighting, no pain, no injury. Peter got his education under vastly harder circumstances than Reed or Doom. Oh, since we're talking about degrees, Xavier has 5 doctorates.

Eh that's bull about Doom. Doom was piss poor as a child wasn't he? Peter came from a working-class background, but not a poor gypsy travelling background.

Also Doom is completely self-taught to the equivalency of several doctorates; that alone is an impressive feat.

Peter just doesn't compare.

Btw, I was reading the 89 edition of the Handguide today, and it does list Kang as a genius.:oldrazz: The current handguide writer must have been of the opinion you are, that he "cheats" because he's from the future. But if Doctor Doom was from the future, would that make him any less intelligent?

Also, if we're going to dock Kang for points, we have to give Tyrranus, and anyone from the past who has a working knowledge of science major bonus points.

To an extent yes but tempered by how long it took them to acquire what knowledge they have and where they got it. Sinister for example has been working on genetics for well over 100 years and advanced genetics knowledge originating from the Deviants has been floating around and available for many decades. If Sinister got hold of Deviant knowledge at about the same time as the High Evolutionary which I think was in the 20's should he be considered at the same level of genius as someone who didn't get help and accomplished the same in 200 years. So if he didn't get help then he deserves credit even if he did develop his knowledge in over a 100 year span. If he got help from an advancef source and still took over 100 years then he might not even deserve gifted status. He may very well have gotten help from Apocalypse. We don't really know. Advanced knowledge has been around and may have gotten into the hands of these people before Homo Sap developed it.

True, due to time travel, no one really knows anything.

It's worth noting that when Kang was Rama Tut, he sired an illegitimate child, who became a Fantastic Four villain called Ramades, who used technology Kang had left behind. That means that technology from the 40th century, was left in the 30th century B.C. Which means the most advanced technology in Earth's history (40th century is sort of considered the end of time in marvel) was around since the earliest civilization.

Thus making technology in Marvel an endless cycle of the chicken and the Egg; Apocalypse and Ramades taking from Kang, Tyrannus taking from them, Sinister taking from them, Doom taking from that technology, and then Bam...Kang taking from Doom.

I always joked with a friend that if they really wanted to throw people for a loop, they'd reveal that Reed's dad is actually a future version of Kang, thus making Kang his own ancestor. hahaha.

Actually according to his SAT scores Bush's IQ is around 129 or 125 depending on the conversion method.

Where would Apocalypse rank?

Very high...

I've been thinking lately...the best way to rank geniuses is to take the characters, and count up the number of areas they have genius in....that might take some time, but I'll put together a list that'll be more objective than my previous one was.

haha, well we all post here and many of us have thousands of posts, so what does that say about us?

haha, well we all post here and many of us have thousands of posts, so what does that say about us?

It says that some of us have Class 100 boredom and some of us ( I won't mention Mistress by name :)) are afflicted with pathological verbosity.

The curent Mastermind Excello, Cho, is ranked 7. His namesake will be returning to Marvel in the mini The Twelve. Here is what Brevoort had to say about him: The only thing they really share is the name. The current one got it from a game show. The Mastermind Excello of the '40s was one of those "super mind" type characters. He had enhanced senses, was a genius, went out and solved peculiar mysteries and crimes and was the smartest man in the world.

So if he lives through the mini there could be two Mastermind Excellos in the top ten.

On a different note and not that he is even a genius. I was thinking that Nuklo must be pretty smart. He was in suspended animation from birth until he was twentish and came out fighting and talking. Then within about 3 years comic time had got his HS equivalency and was a mechanic, pretty good for some who was only conscious for three years.

I would say:

1. Richards
2. Stark
3. Doom
4. Banner
5. Pym
6. The Leader
7. Amadeus Cho (obviously)
8. Baron Von Blizschlag
9. Forge
10. Dr. Curtis Connors

Anybody who can build crazy portals to other dimensions, armor, robots, crazy weapons, gamma bombs, tamper with the genetic code, or can steal the power cosmic from the Silver Surfer deserves to be in the top 10.

Hmmmm...

1 Reed
2 Doom
3 Kang
4 Leader
5 Mad Thinker
6 Banner
7 Cho
8 Pym
9 MODOK
10 Sinister

For consideration: Otto, Norman, Zola, Blitzzieg (or whatever his name is), Mandarin, Apoc, Strange, Miles Warren, Zemo

Yeah,..

We hashed this out early last year,.....

i think:

High E
Reed
Doom
Stark
Sinister
Banner
(insert Choi here I guess)
Thinker
Pym
Beast

After that a slew of heroes who are only brilliant in one area,.. two at the most.

To be fair, Mandarin discovered his technology. He didn't create it. Much as you've pointed out before, Kang The Conqueror discovered his technology, and thus you've used that information to try to discredit his genius. I see no difference between Kang and the Mandarin, finding their technology, and learning how to use it, and learning to create from it.

Granted, Mandarin is a little bit smarter than Kang, but Kang would still woop his ass in a fight ;-).

anyway...

the top 6? Don't know about #6, but the top 5 is obvious. In fact, it's damn near stated in Heroes reborn.

01. Reed Richards
02. Victor Von Doom
03. Anthony Stark
04. Bruce Banner
05. Henry Pym

as for 6?

The Mandarin, En Saba Nur, Nathaniel Essex, & The Moleman are all possibilities.

I don't consider Cable being on Reed's level to hold much weight; that's a BRAND-NEW edition to the canon, that wasn't even in handbooks. As short a time as two or three years ago, Cable was recieving an above average rating for intelligence, which would put him in the intellectual company of his own parents, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, and a few others. Not to say he's dumb, but for the first 10-12 years of his existence, Cable was written as being of above average intelligence, nothing more.

quote]

The Class of Super Genius, Earth 616 according to the current handbooks:

Bruce Banner (Hulk)
Victor Von Doom (Doctor Doom)
Harvey Elder (The Moleman)
Nathaniel Essex (Sinister)
High Evolutionary
The Mandarin
En Saba Nur (Apocalypse)
Henry Pym (Yellow Jacket)
Nathaniel Richards (Reed's Dad)
Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic)
Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Samuel Sterns (The Leader)

these twelve men, in some order are the smartest men on the planet, with Cho presumably smack dab in the middle. All other geniuses from 616 21st Century Planet Earth (Xavier, Magnus, McCoy, Forge, Connors, Warren) are just regular geniuses. The ones above are the only unchartable "Super geniuses".

Extraordinary Genius:

01. High Evolutionary
02. The Leader
03. MODOK
04. Cable
05. Nathaniel Richards
06. Mr. Fantastic
07. Doctor Doom
08. Apocalypse
09. Sinister
10. Iron Man
11. The Hulk
12. Mandarin
13. The Moleman
14. Yellow Jacket (Pym)
15. Franklin Richards

Genius:

16. Cassandra Nova
17. The Mad Thinker
18. Professor X
19. Kid Omega
20. Magneto
21. Forge
22. Beast
23. Stryfe
24. Baron Zemo
25. Sasquatch
26. Black Panther
27. Doctor Octopus
28. Justin Hammer
29. Doctor Strange
30. Spencer Smythe
31. Kang The Conqueror
32. The Iron Monger
33. The Jackal
34. Morbius
35. Graviton
36. Lizard
37. Hyde
38. Arcade
39. Red Skull
40. Tinkerer
41. Green Goblin
42. Crimson Dynamo (1)
43. Allistair Smythe
44. The Red Ghost
45. Madman
46. Gremlin
47. Temugin
48. Baron Mordo
49. Ant-Man (Lang)
50. Goliath (Foster)

I read comics, read as many different handbooks as I could...and at certain points I winged this...and this is what I get for the 50 most intelligent in Marvel.

This list is only made of: Humans, Mutants, Mutates, and Sentient Computer life.

This list excludes: Cosmic Beings, Demons, Gods, Aliens, and alternate versions of the same man (Dark Beast, Immortus etc)

I may go to 100, and figure out the gifted break off.

1. Reed Richards
2. Tony Stark
3. Dr. Doom
4. Hank Pym
5. M.O.D.O.K.
6. Beast
7. The Leader
8. Amadeus Cho
9. BlackPanther
10. Arin Zola
11. Bruce Banner
12. Baron Von Blizschlag
13. The Wizard
14. Professor X
15. Forge
16. Black Goliath
17. Norman Osborn

So here is what I gather so far from this thread.
