Why all the hate over the flag shot?

Like most of the film it seemed forced.It also took away from the urgency of spidey getting to the final battle as it seemed he had time to pose in front of a flag.

Like many here have said the shot was out of place they should have done that in the spiderman celebration day. It was stupid really, MJ is in peril and spidey has little time but suddenly he had to stop infront of the flag and then run off? oh I get it he was just catching his breath before the big fight and out of coincidence he stopped in front of the american flag. The shot just slowed the momentum of the scene the urgency. It would have worked great if it was done in a subtle way but not having to slowdown for that. I mean I loved the shot, what I din't like was the moment it took place within the context of the film.

People complain about this and THEN they complain that in a GI JOE movie you can't put the real American Hero gimmick in it because it's too jingoistic and because it wouldn't play to international audiences.

I didn't hate it, it was just really ****ing cheesy. Like in Spidey 1 when all the New Yorkers are like "You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us!" Or some such ****. It's not that people hate America, it just feels so forced and unnatural. Like it's there because it was mandated to be there.

It doesn't matter what kind of a flag it was. The shot was just really bad and the flag in the background was way too distracting. Its not because it's a patriotic image, it's because is very distracting and takes viewers right out of the action.

It's not THAT the flag was in the movie, it was more of the fact that it took up the whole screen, and add the fact it looked so forced.

Spiderman is an American
He's New Yorks hero ( remember Sept. 11th)
This movie was made mainly for an American audience(I dont think Argentina is going to buy 3 million dollars worth of tickets)

I was actually offended in the first spiderman movie when goblin attacked during the "multi-cultural parade " instead of an American holiday of some sort.... Just kidding about being offended , but you get my point.

Oh , yeah , I read a review from someone in Australia who made a comment about how America thought they owned Spiderman . Gimme a break. Name ONE AUSTRAILIAN COMIC BOOK CHARACTER with a movie.

It was a bit out of context, yes ... But it didn't bother me. I love any shot that has Spidey with the American flag. The two compliment each other very well, in my opinion.

I do agree with a previous poster that it should have been placed in the "Spider-Man Day" sequence. That would have been cool.

I hated the shot. It really wound me up, I mean having the whole background as the flag...ha, somebody may as well have said "here comes the predictable, unstoppable American hero out to save the world as, only Americans can". I love Spider-Man but hated that shot.

I am not meaning to diss Americans but after the millionth film of the American saving the world it gets really old.

First off... I don´t hate the United States or the people in there, I was in NY last year, and I plan to go there this year two

But that shoot was really bad, I didn´t mind the Flag inthe first two flim those shoots went seamless with the whole movie

but this shoot was just, just too "in your face" it was out of place, and yes, the CGI was REALLY BAD

And yeah... check most hollywood film, the people who die first and make most mistakes are people from other countries, or minorities

I loved the shot, and I'm not even american. Although it was placed at a weird timeframe it showed once again why Superman Returns was such a missfire. The US have alot of problems right now and someone who embraces the good foundations instead of just bashing on the roof the whole time is needed right now. Marvel should get their butts in place to give the Cap a shot before DC realise that and fix their fault.

That's the point. Spider-Man was getting the key to the city. A bunch of people grouped up as a community to cheer for a local hero. The American flag scene is SO appropriate for that.

The hate for this scene has got nothing to do with "patriotism", the way I see it. The flag itself is just distracting, unnecessary, and doesn't fit. If it were a Japan flag or Mexican flag, people would still feel the same way about the scene.
