Why all the hate over the flag shot?

Count me in the loving the Flag shot in the film. It was a great moment, the perfect moment before Spidey goes off to fight Sandman and Venom. I don't see why everyone has to get all huffy and puffy about it considering the shot has been used in the previous films. I hope every Spidey film has a shot like that, it's awesome and really keeps the epic and hopeful feel of the films.

The only thing that caught me off guard about the flag was its placement... I fully expected it to be used during the Spider-Man appreciation day scene instead.

I just saw a tv spot and um the shot w/ the flag has been altered...

#1: It shows Spidey reaching the top of that roof during the DAYTIME
#2: The flag is nowhere to be seen behind him...its a perfect blue sky background.

It seems like they digitally removed it..at least in the tv spot.

Weird.

The american flag shot, with spidey jumping in front of it, was definitly one of those shots where I could've hurled my dinner! It was so tacky! And why the **** did they feel the need to make the flag CG!!!?.... It also had some lines that was so incredibly cheasy in that sequence! Like the british reporter saying "He seemed to have come out of no where, to save the city, just when all hope seemed to be lost!" & "It's hard to describe what's happening...the brutality of it" Jeez!! It just didn't work! The whole theater was laughing. So UGLY!

Most of those who hate it, not meaning to sound countryist, are from different countries... which actually hate us. I don't really know why. But, I know that we're hated for some reason. Foreigners are harsh.
Maybe it's that war we created out of lies.

I SAW THAT TOO! I was very surprised, I don't know why that was done...

^ it's also during the day, and without the stupid flag in the 1'st theatrical trailer released back in november. They should've kept it that way too!!!

I didn't hate it, it was just really ****ing cheesy. Like in Spidey 1 when all the New Yorkers are like "You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us!" Or some such ****. It's not that people hate America, it just feels so forced and unnatural. Like it's there because it was mandated to be there.

what he said.

Wow, I find it hard to believe that an American flag would be featured somewhere in america's biggest city and that Spider-man would just happend to pass one of those obscure american flags. I mean how ridiculous is THAT!? Not to mention that they have him in front of it for a WHOLE half second, I mean come on that half second could have been used on important character development, instead of American patriotism shoved DOWN OUR THROATS!!

relax blowhard. youre sarcasm sucks.

I'm a proud American, but I didn't like the shot (it seemed too forced). I thought the SM1 flag shot was executed much better. Like some said before, it would've worked better during the 'Spidey Appreciation Day'. That's where I was originally expecting to see it. I'm all for patriotism (sp?) but it just took me out of the moment for that part of the film, lol :o

Because we don't need to be forced to buy into the cliche of an "American hero".

yeah anyone who calls our flag stupid is a jerk
I'm not an american... anyway, I didn't mean "stupid" as america beeing stupid, nor their flag looking stupid... I just meant that I could've hurled when I saw it in that contenst... It was sooo over the top, and the line from that irritating british reporter that followed, didn't help it one bit.

yeah they do
the American flag is one thing that can NEVER be described as used gratuitously

It ain't sancrosanct. Where we come from is important, especially in a world that pretty much won't hesitate to give us **** for no reason but that, that's a thing to agree on for sure.

But the fact is, the shot was over the top. And out of place, too. It was fine in SM2 as an ending symbol for Spidey to be near, but in SM3? Raimi just shoved this huge ass flag behind Parker when he was rushing to get to the battle royale. It was seriously out of nowhere.

Spider-Man standing in front of the american flag on Spider-Man day and getting the key to they city = Appropriate

Spider-Man coming to the last minute rescue, but taking his time to pose in front of a flag = Mega cheese

uhh wtf does sancrosanct mean

every house in my neighborhood has an american flag placed in front of the mailbox posts. it's not really related, but i was wondering if this was considered cheesy.

^Well when they push out a Finnish superhero movie and they show the Finland flag in a shot...I will complain. Patriotism...yea we all hate it........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Thank God we don't have Finnish superheros. :p (Renny Harlin shows Finnish flag in his movies. Complain about those.)

I kinda rolled my eyes at that part too, just found it to be unnecessary and in your face too much!

i really don't understand this. god forbid there be any patriotism anymore. i keep reading posts where people "cringe/roll there eyes" at this shot. what exactly is the problem? is it because it's the cool thing to hate America? is it because you don't think Spider-Man should be associated with America? i'm not patriotic, but i don't see why people would show disdain for this shot. i don't want this to into a political thread, although i'm sure it will. either way i'm glad Raimi included the shot.
The question is; what purpose did it serve? The answer is; none, other than to annoy the rest of the world (y'know all that stuff that isn't in America).
