"Why, back in my day..."

Holy nostalgia! this thread needs to stay alive at all costs!

Where else can I reminisce about the good old days alongside my peers...:(

where to begin  So many good memories flooding back...

Mask, Voltron, Migthor, Thundarr the barbarian, Bionic Six, Grandizer, Mazinger Z, Captain Harlock, Pac-man, hell, the entire Hanna-Barbera roster, Looney tunes...Masters of the universe, Care bears, Ulysses 31, Battle of the planets, Thundercats, GI-Joes, Transformers, Captain N, Super Mario Brothers Super Show! and I could so easily go on...

Sure, compare them to today's show and they might not hold up production-wise. The dialogue may sound corny and the depth was basicaly absent...but Damnit those shows had some Heart & Spirit

Now obviously some stuff is better these days. But a lot of the magic life had back then is gone today.

The world I grew up in his gone...and I can't help but long for those days. For ****'s sake...here's a great example of how jaded today's youth is. I love Halloween, always have, always will. Back in my day, we used to love going trick or treating as much for the candy as it was about the costume and seeing the decorations and what-not. Well this year I had a little walk around the neighborhood on Oct 31...and there were barely any sign that it was Halloween! I saw 2 houses that had (a bare minimum) of decorations and of the 3 bunch of people I saw doing anything Halloween related, two of them were teenagers with normal clothing and a bit of make-up and the last one was a parent taking her kid out trick-or-treating...without a costume!

I said F*** it! I'm reclaiming Goddamn Halloween!

So I went back home and threw on a few old costume pieces that still fit (and matched), a mask and voila! ready to go out! To my (although not big)surprise, A lot of people on the street seemed completely weirded out by the idea of someone walking around in a full costume...on Halloween! you'd have thought I'd just invented the concept right there...

This era sucks! for all the technological breakthroughs, for all the improvements in our daily lives...we've got to face the fact that the price for it all was out heart.

Sorry for the rant, I just miss the old days... :(

Talk Hard!

Andy Rooney is that you?:csad:

Seriously though. I totally agree I hate the times that we live in right now. I just feel like a complete alien to this world. I don't understand it. I am only 28, & I feel like I am like 60. It really pisses me off!

Yeah, it's the same where I live. Halloween decorations are rare. When I was younger there'd be quite a few, but as I got older they seemed to lessen with each year. This year I didn't see any decorations, except for the odd plasic little pumpkin.

I do that all the time when I see little kids running wild and their parents do nothing. In my day, my mom woulda stopped that with the back of her hand!

I completely agree with this statement. I want to run over idiot kids and their moms for not caring.

I'm Evil, Evil I tell you MUHAHAHAHA :cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

I don't get why so many of the older posters always mentioned how back in their day they were back handed, and kids today are just whiney brats with no respect who need a good smack, blah blah, etc..

It always seemed to me to be such a primitive short term solution to things.

A little smack never hurt anyone, provided that it's not to the head. There's too much political correctness of the issue of "spanking". Back in the day, I'd cop the cane, belt and hand in one hiding and that was only my dad. After that my mum would have a go at me too with the back of her hand and a bit of ear twisting.

What the hell do you mean by "cop the cane" and

Yes. I've started entering that phase of my life where the generation gap is at now.

But, seriously, come on. In the '80s the cartoons were way more awesome than they are now. Thundercats, He-Man, Transformers, Go-Bots, M.A.S.K., Voltron. All great cartoons. What do kids have now? Pokemon? Come on, that's the most terrible show I've ever seen.

I had Batman the Animated Series in the early 90's. What's the Batman cartoon like today? It sucks. It's NOTHING like BTAS! :cmad:

And movies...come on...the movies being put out these days and the singers/stars that are in them are completely fake, completely worthless, and that's why hardly anybody goes to the movies anymore. :cmad:

I may sound like an old man, but I'm right. Back in my day it was more awesome. It sucks to be a kid or a teenager these days. You can't even have people FART on network television without a fine being dealt out.

I'm 25 and my mom would have done what Dew says her mom would have done. She may not have spanked me in public but she would have grabbed twisted something and given the close talk through clenched teeth. Which mean't your doomed. My mom was the ass kicker in my house. But when you have 3 kids under 10 by the time your 30 you have to come down hard. My dad was afraid to be like my grand dad, who was the fork stabbing belt weilding old school parent, so he never did anything.

The biggest problem is that parents are afraid of their kids. Or rather afraid to correct them sternly. It's an image thing. My mom wasn't afraid to litterally keep us on a short leash. She had this wrist tie thing that would keep us from going more than 1 meter from her.

Just another way of saying "put up with" I guess. It's an Australian thing :)

Anyone else remember the cartoon "MASK"???

Or the Silverhawks??

I remember MASK, that was an awesome cartoon. And even more awesome toys, I used to have pretty much all of them, with their vehicles. Though eventually the vehicles got broken and I launched the figures, which were rather small, into the sewer by my house by accident. It was a sad, sad day in my early youth...but I learned a lesson that day...don't play by the sewer.

Anyone remember getting thier first BMX bike.....

With names like Huffy or Murray on the bike....

Having kids will make it feel even worse.
