I mean, what happened? Didn't Spidey come from Marvel to begin with? Spidey should go home to Marvel, where he belongs. Sony is making all the fans unhappy and insecure about Spidey.

Marvel should be taking care of the reboot IMO.

I don't don't if there is an expiry date on the rights, what I do know is if sony are dormant with future spidey movies for two years then contract becomes void and the right go back to marvel, but that's not going to happen, all they have to do is stick a writer on the project and say they are developing a script.

to cut a long story short unless there is an expiry date marvel wont be getting their hands on the spidey movie rights anytime soon.

Plus it's too much of a cash cow for Sony to want to give it up anyway.

I think Marvel got Hulk back from Universal because of the lackluster performance of the 2003 film, so Universal didn't mind parting with it. Spidey, on the other hand, has been a gold mine from day one for Sony....

marvel most be kicking themselves for selling the rights.
2.5 BILLION! not including video, dvd and blu ray sales

Disney will play hard ball with Sony if they continue to dawdle. If Avengers is on schedule and BB3 goes through for 2012, those movies will lock up the prime release dates and Spidey will be under further pressure to perform under adverse circumstances. Whether Sony is able to milk another trilogy or not, this will be the last set of solo Spidey films from them IMO.

I dont think so, they still get kick backs for owning the IP. Back then its not like they were in any position to make the movie themselves.

I don't think Avengers is ANY competition for Spidey. Spidey is in a league of his own, and Sony, Marvel, Disney and whoever else knows it. I mean, lets be real, SM1 was a decent Spider-Man movie, but not a great one, yet it shattered b.o records like no bodies business. Just the name alone holds weight, and whomever holds that weight, holds alot of money......

Put everything in context. Marvel was coming out of bankruptcy when they cut this deal and the X-Men deal with Fox. Without the studio's sweetheart deals, these films would've never have been made and Marvel would still be floundering. We'd have no Dark Knight or Iron Man. So, if Marvel could go back in time, they'd do the exact same thing.

Sony will hold on to Spider-Man for our lifetimes at least. Six more Spider-Man films to be sure. With Disney/Marvel tied up with all the Avengers properties, I can live with that.

if they keep making spiderman movies marvel cant get it back

this is a big reason why we are getting a reboot maybe the biggest reason

I think the reason is that they saw the franchise headed down a hole and they were concerned about the longterm profitability. That is the reason they are coming out with the reboot movie so soon though.

I wish they would wait like 10 years.

Well this is kind of another reason I liked the fact that Spidey was delayed, now Thor wont have to compete with it. Which means more people seeing Thor and generating more interest in the Avengers especially with Cap America only a few months after Thor.

Five or Ten years is a common license length, but the Salkinds had a FIFTY year deal on Superman at one point.

Marvel doesn't even own Spider-Man anymore. You mean why can't "DISNEY" get the rights back for Spidey.

Personally, I trust Disney more with Spider-Man than I do with Marvel or Sony.

yeah I do as well. hey by chance you aren't Kakaw or Kawkaw from the sony boards are ya?

disney's lawers are the best in the business, if there is a loophole they will find it.

however sony gave the TV right back to disney so you could possibly see a liver action/animated spidey tv series. or DTV spidey movies produced by disney.

Marvel still owns Spider-Man. Marvel's owned and is a subsidiary of Disney now. I seriously, think people didn't even READ the articles on the deal.

semantics. disney own marvel thus they own spidey

Yes, but Marvel still owns Spider-Man and has a say in him. Disney has also agreed and said that they believe Marvel knows what's best for their properties and they won't pretend to know what's best.

Disney's also agreed to honor current contracts until the time is up. So they are not gonna swoop in and take Spider-Man away from Sony until Sony is inactive with the franchise.

well no arguement there except they (disney/marvel) may want a bigger say in its flagship character so may aggresively seek to get him if the oppertunity arises

Marvel doesn't know what's best for Spider-Man, have you not seen the movies with the mute with no personality called Spider-Man. Have you seen the movie with Sandman as Uncle Ben's killer, and the guy with organic web shooters. How the hell does Marvel know what's best for Spider-Man, and this extends to the comics books, as well. Marvel only cares about how much money they can make off of Spider-Man, that's it.

Disney has adapted several iconic properties over the decades, and every freakin' one of them is just as the creator envisioned them, but animated. Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, hell, even the original Winnie-The-Pooh cartoons would make A. A. Milne jump for joy. Disney like any other business likes to make money, but they make damn sure that the integrity of their properties are intact. That's for damn sure. There will be no reinventing of the wheel if Disney took over Spider-Man.

Plus, they have to say what they've said to keep fans from huffing and puffing like wolves. Just wait until the rights revert back to Marvel, or should I say revert back to Disney. They've already said they would like to "distribute" Marvel characters...oops...I mean their characters.

Dude. Disney bought Marvel not to mess with their characters, they bought Marvel cause Marvel is ah ot commodity right now. They just wanted a chunk of that. Disney won't be nearly as hands on as you think.

Disney bought Marvel because Marvel and it's characters are hot property.

Why would Disney butt in and ruin that? They ain't going to interfere, they just want a slice of the big fat lucrative super hero pie. End of.

Yep. Disney owns alot of things, that it's just collecting money off of and not really interfering with. Marvel will be no different. Just means Marvel has more Money backing it and it has a more solid future than even DC in the end.

Exactly if you think about it, aside from Pixar, Disney hasnt really had a big hit in a while. Hell most people still remember Disney for the Disney Renaissance era films, not their latest stuff. This is purely image and marketing for disney i.e. going to disney world and seeing mickey dressed like spidey. Personally im hoping for a marvel themed world if Kingdom Hearts III ever gets made.
