It all made sense in the Raimi one, Peter deciding to become a crime fighter so he makes himself a costume. In TASM however, it doesn't make sense. I understand him using the mask when he's out hunting Ben's killer, but then Peter randomly decides he needs to create super advance spider web thingys, and sew himself a superhero costume. All for hunting down Ben's killer. Doesn't make sense man

Those films don't make much sense. It's for the best if you don't put any thought to them.

Yeah, not a lot of thought was put into those movies so the less time we spend trying to make sense of them the better. But I will admit that the first one did get some things right, while the second one was embarrassing from top to bottom.

Peter got bit by a Spider and Spider powers. That's why he made the webs to go with his Spider-Theme and the costume with a SPIDER logo on it. Because he is a Spider-Themed and Spider-Powered hero.

Did I make it clear that a Spider is involved in this?

I just find it strange. Same with the fact that there's no scene where he really discovers his powers. He just kind of accepts the fact that "oh, guess I have superpowers now".

I wouldn't analyze like its a good movie. You're overthinking something that was thrown together just to make money.

So because he got bit by a spider, he automatically wants to become a spider-themed superhero who fights crime? There's some character motivation missing in there. I'd have to go back and watch ASM 1 to know if my suspicions are correct, but he just kind of makes a costume while hunting for his uncle's killer (a plot point which is inexplicably dropped towards the middle of the movie). It isn't as well-articulated as it could be, that's for sure.

That's exactly what it's like. He's out hunting the killer, then we see him in front of his computer looking at spandex suits. "Spandex, spandex, everything spandex." Then he hunts the killer some more, then we see him in front of the computer again, looking at Oscorps new biocable.

There's no "go out and make some money" scene in this movie?

Agreed. I never liked ASM because of how weak they made Doc Conners/Lizard and the plot was a mess. Never understood how people could say it was better than Raimi's take.

I don't see what doesn't make sense. He knows that he's gotten super powers from a spider, he works as Oscorp and they have developed the actual webbing substance, so he just puts 1+1 together and gets an idea for a delivery system. That's not "random" at all.

It's not solely to hunt down the killer either as we've already seen him train and enjoy his powers at that point.

Just like how he gets his idea for a costume, as he gets chased by a bunch of people when he attacked a suspected murderer and realizes that they now know who he is as they saw his face. He falls down through the roof and lands in an old pro wrestling ring (homage to the comics of course) and sees the mask of a wrestler on a poster. That combines the idea of hiding his identity and adding some theatrics.

Thank you. It is all there on screen and done no less in a way that makes some sense than the first Raimi film. And there are indeed scenes where he discovers his powers and they show him learning to use them. Please actually watch the film would be my advice. Is TASM 2 a mess? Yeah. Then again it could be argued they actually listened to the online fan "complaints" and fixed somethings that weren't even broken from the first film. Frankly as a long time Spider-Man fan I will take the first Webb film over the first Raimi film any day.

to be fair he designed the costume to wrestle to try to win money, to impress a girl, but, was only able to put together a cheap version of his deign... of a spray painted sweater and sky mask

then in the next scene reveals a fully designed version of the costume, out of no where

he just kind of makes a costume while hunting for his uncle's killer (a plot point which is inexplicably dropped towards the middle of the movie)

The plot wasn't inexplicably dropped... His talk with Captain Stacy made him want to be a real hero and not just a vigilante hunting for Uncle Ben's killer.

Which talk with Captain Stacy? What was said? It's been a minute since I've seen the film.

I don't know what some of you guys are talking about. The Amazing Spider-Man was a movie with a lot of heart and passion put into it, at least from Marc and the cast. It has deep, interesting, and complex characters on a much higher level than most superhero films.

Could be the argument they have at Gwen's family's apartment over dinner. The Captain makes some points about how Spider-Man seems to be a guy on a personal mission taking vengeance and operating outside the law with seemingly no code and no higher power to answer to.

Wasn't that after her created the costume though. The point was "why make a costume before deciding to be a superhero?"

Someone brought up the hunt for Ben's killer, so that's where that tangent went.

He built the costume because he needed to be aerodynamic to swing well. Thus a spandex suit.

The arachnid theme seems a bit on the nose if his initial thoghts were to be a masked killer don't you think?

As I wrote above, he gets the idea of mixing a disguise and theatrics from seeing a pro wrestling poster, which is a condensed homage to the original story. He has already gotten to terms with that he's gotten super powers from a spider, and started to learn how to use them, so it's kind of natural.

While I don't have a problem with the character it does strike me as a bit ironic that a Batman fan says that another character has a weak link to his costume. I'd rather think that it would make one be more tolerant there. :)

Oh well. I just would have liked a scene where he discovers his powers and so on. But it makes sense that he isn't really surprised he got the powers, after all he knows exactly why: cross-species genetics. Still love the movie though. :yay:

I don't see how that's the case. Peter had more interesting ideas around him as a character, but I don't see the characters being that complex, interesting or deep.

God bless you! God bless everyone in your life!
