WHY DID HULK SPEAK IN 2003 FILM?!?!?!? HULK SMASH DIRECTOR GUY TO ATOMS 4 THAT!!! RARRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!:cmad: :cmad: :cmad: :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

He did say "Puny human", didn't he? The movie still sucked anyway.

EDIT: Actually, you know what? I retract that statement. It didn't suck, it was just a blatantly average movie with flashy effects.

Not only did he only utter two lousy words, he grew way too big. At one point, he looked around fifteen feet tall. Why, why, why do these movie guys always have to put their little spins on characters who have been going strong for so long?

He does so. He has been talking since the sixties. Mostly he says, "Hulk smash" and "Hulk destroy", but he talks.

Thats cheesy....

And yes Hulk Smash is what you all wanted wasn't it? Instead you got an intelligent, story driven film. And had a hissy fit when you were forced to think. Pitiful...

Hulk gets bigger the more you anger him, so he gets around fifteen feet tall because he's REALLY pissed off.

Yeah it sucked cause You were made to think? Because it followed the comic in that it's about a man trying to control this monster inside of him, instead of the mindless action fest you all eagerly anticipated because you are so accustomed to that kind of crap? Right

Actually, I was being a little sarcastic. The Hulk, in the comics, often says plenty, not just "Hulk smash". It would have been a more interesting character, and more true to the comics to have him talk.
I got that he got bigger as he got angrier. But again, this was an invention of the film makers. In the comics, his size remains constant. the Hulk has been a great character for decades. There is absolutely no need for movie guys to add their little spin.

A talking Hulk would be just stupid. We don't need to hear him talk to know whats going on.

If his size remains constant than how would he get bigger as he got madder?

The source material for these characters is the comics. They make movies based on them because the characters are so compelling and so enduring that people want to bring them to life. The best idea is to remain true to the source. A talking Hulk is not stupid. It works. It has worked for decades. It is no more stupid than any other character talking. And the Hulk, in the books, does NOT get biggger when he gets madder, only stronger as he becomes increasingly enraged.

He actually says 5 words, "Puny Human" in a dream sequence & "Take It All" when Absorbing Dad was trying to extract his power in the lake.

Actually it is more stupid than any other character talking. Hulk is supposed to be a rampaging beast, so why should he talk? He should roar, thats it. And how can you tell if he gets stronger without seeing him become bigger?

Jeez, theres no appeasing these rabid fanboys. *rolls eyes*

Simple, he didn't talk because he didn't feel the need to talk.

and he was also able to express all his emotions via his body language and grunts.

The hulk in the film differs greatly from the comics, the two characters are barely relatable but this isn't a bad thing. I feel his adaptation works.

What he is "supposed to be" is what Stan Lee created. A rampaging, super strong, rage fueled character who talks. Ang Lee did not create the Hulk. Movie fans did not, either. Marvel comics did. And the Hulk has always talked in the comics.

That is just stupid, at one point Hulk will get so pissed off that he will be the size of Mighty Joe Young or Godzilla! That would look stupid, Hulk wouldn't need to use his strength if he is the size of a mountain!

To show Hulk getting stronger by getting angrier can be simple, in Ang's Hulk, Betty said to T-Bolt that the military will only fuel his rage and make him stronger, simple, done, you now know that the angrier Hulk becomes the stronger he gets. Or you could just show Hulk's veins or something popping.

Right. I can't understand why it's such a crazy idea to stay true to the source.

Because not everything translates well to real life situations. Besides, the Hulk's mass is accustomed to increasing with his anger. It happens.

The Hulk talking would translate just fine. And the Hulk does not grow to giant stature as he gets angrier in the comics. I don't think he ever gets over seven feet tall and about a thousand pounds or so.

Im a huge hulk fan as we all are, but that's one of the things I don't think will work in a movie, at least not too often. Maybe one or two quotes, but I don't think lines and lines of Hulk gibberish are neccessary. I thought he sounded good in the Ang film and it fit the context of the scene, so one "Hulk Smash" or "Strongest one there is" could be fine, but please not too much...

I don't know. I think the Hulk could have as much to say as anyone else does in the movies. If it works in the comics, then why not on film? What would be the big difference?

"Hulk smash" sounds cheesey if done the wrong way. They can make it sound good.

Actually, Ang didn't make up the Hulk becoming bigger as he grows stronger, it happened in a comic once. I forgot which one it was but the Hulk did in fact grows as he got madder & it was written by Stan Lee & drawn by Jack Kirby. His size for the movie was fine, the Hulk needs to be huge, it's just how he's supposed to be. I had no problem with it whatsoever.

Hulk has a FULL vocabulary, and it needs to be brought to light! It's amazing that so many people are afraid if Hulk talks, it'll sound stupid or look chessy. Yet everyone can except talking giant robots, talking trees and a whole slu of talking aliens from Star Wars. It simply hasn't been tried for the Hulk, but many of you assume it won't work! Why, because that's what they did on a low budget TV show? It can and Will work if you just try it! Does No one think it's dumb that the Abomination talks but the Hulk dosen't? Evolve people!
