Why do people do such evil things?

I swore I was going to take a long break from posting in message boards, but recent events have just bothered me so much I had to see if there was anyone else out there who felt the same way. By now most of you must know about the horrible tragedy Jennifer Hudson is going through, how inhuman to have an innocent child mixed up in this senseless violence and parade of violent death. And then there's yet another school shooting, this time in Arkansas, with two fatalities. All this cruelty has made me question whether we as a species are losing our minds? Why do people do such evil things to one another? It just makes me feel like crying out from all the pain in my heart for a world that is losing itself. It seems to me like the only real purity on this planet is the balance of nature, which humanity has seemed to turn its back on and delights in destroying. I just have to ask myself a lot why all this negative energy continues to thrive. When will all this apathy and senseless destruction end?

Yeah, basically. We've been evil horrible beings since the day we first climbed out of a tree or saw something that God told us not to touch. (depending on your belief system or whatever.)

From a guy bashing his brother in the head with a rock, to human sacrifices, to the inquisition, to rape and pillaging of the country side. We've never been able to get along. We're just a buncha *****e bags. In the end, Apathy is the only thing we have to keep us sane.

It is quite sad. all these evil and bad things in the world. This evil has been around since the dawn of time, and even though we now have socitity and everything it only tends to get worse. the reason it so bad is because humans in general are Evil. I would be lying if i said i hadn't lied before, or been greedy or glutteness at some point. That is why I perfer to Read Comic instead of the Gloomy Newspaper that shows just how evil and cruel the world really is. At lest comics inspider and give us hope that it could be worse or that we can survive in a cruel and unfair world. And socitity is encouging Bad behavior more and more and make things accepable that shouldn't be. the world is going to hell. Some one needs to step up and fix it but I doubt any one can or those in a position to fix the world have been Corruptted by there power. I have head sevel cause were some was going to try and be the hero to fix everything by making a seat in the US Congress or something but they had to Corruptted themsevels to get there and eventually turned in to doing it the same evil has ever one else. but That just example I would image it's just has bad in other countries if not worse. So because of them the world is in a horriable state. also I blame the parents of Children, cause a lot of parents don't spank there children not beat, spank there is a differance. dang it. - sry some people are dumb and don't understand that. but worse yet they don't teach the kid the meaning of the word no or right from wrong. witch is what I believe is no contributeing to people doing such evil unmentionable things. any what the why I think there is so much evil in the world. but then since evil is human nature how do you stop it? makes it tough, however most people have good hearts that can over come it. but I think it is socitiy that is the probablem and is what causes people to be evil. It seems like all these good and wonderful Idea to help people have been turned evil and truned the people evil. Communism is proof of that. It was a good idea that doesn't work because evil people made it something Horriable. any way I just sort of pray and hope the world gets better, and think of ways i can keep it from getting worse since it can't be fixed. it does almost make you cry when you think about it.

I don't think the human race has collectively "gone nuts", but I do believe that humans are fallible, and often selfishly destructive. It's not a pretty picture at all, but it's part of our fallen nature.

Why do people do such evil things to one another?

People have been trying to find the "one great answer" to this question for millennia...and while the immediate reasons vary greatly, I think it all boils down to an absence of unconditional love. God is clearly described as being the epitome of righteous love, but those who turn away from him have no inner experience with it. Without that kind of complete love, there's a huge void, and people will do nearly anything to try and fill it, no matter the cost.

It just makes me feel like crying out from all the pain in my heart for a world that is losing itself.

I feel that way sometimes, too. This planet has become so fiercely gripped by chaos, and often it seems like there's no way out of it...but God says different, and urges those who love Him to follow His example in loving both the Father and others, to the best of our (and His) ability.

It seems to me like the only real purity on this planet is the balance of nature, which humanity has seemed to turn its back on and delights in destroying.

Even plants are impure, because like anythng else, they naturally die, without any involvement from us. That doesn't mean we shouldn't care about the environment, but I believe there comes a point when folks can take it too far.

I just have to ask myself a lot why all this negative energy continues to thrive.

Better yet, you could ask God...and if you truly have an open heart willing to listen, He will answer you.

When God finally condemns Satan to eternal imprisonment in hell for his crimes. Now, the Millennial Kingdom will bring a huge reduction to the selfishness, but it won't permanently vanish until the tempter is rendered forever powerless.

Bad things have been happening throughout history, the only difference is the media is more sensitive about it.

Meh the countless homicides that go unreported aren't even the worse of it.

There are hardcore wars that have been going on for decades that no one cares to report on, not to mention the manmade and natural disasters such as disease, famine, plague flooding where the locals are pretty much deemed expendable etc..

"Evil" is an invention of mankind. The reason people do it is because they don't believe they usually don't believe or don't realize that they are doing evil, they justify their actions, or they simply don't understand them. There's no simple reason people do "evil" things.

The question should be...why are we still surprised that people do evil things?

Yes, I know the whole Human Nature thing, but my God a 7 year old child who basically did nothing to anyone was brutally murdered. I think it's sick that such a lovely boy has suffered such a cruel fate. We, as Homo sapiens, have one thing most animal species do not have and that's thought and reason. It angers me that most of humanity insists on acting out with intolerable cruelty towards one another. With all our technological advances we still as a species have remained evolutionarily stagnant.

People do evil things for the same reason we do anything. It's just the choices we make and what life has in store for us, whatever that maybe,that leads us to do evil things.

Evil however, is culturally constructed and what maybe be evil to us can be honorable or noble to others.

Why do people do horrible things to one another? I don't know. Maybe aggression served an important purpose in our survival back in the day and it's a trait we have retained today.

Most industrialized nations were built on "evil".
The institutions we cower before and guide us in life have been less then divine.
When you consider the suffering and death corporations and nations impose on whole populations on a world wide basis, things like school shootings, serial murders and the like are petty in comparison.
The suffering and sadness is no less real, but on a much smaller scale.

well our natural instinct is for retribution. we feel just in doing that. but it's all to easy for people to be mistaken and avenge actions that either didn't happen or weren't the result of people at all. witch trials is a good example of this be it works subtly in every day life aswell.

Evil is easy. It is corrupting, poisonous, and ultimately leaves you a worthless, broken person. But in times of great hardship and sadness in someone's life, it's a lot easier than good, and thus it is tempting. And as it brings about even more hardship, but continues to be the easier option, it ultimately becomes addictive.
