Why do some members continually discuss movies they hate?

I've noticed that often threads for movies released a few weeks to a few months back and some upcoming movies have the same members continually go there regularly to talk about how bad it was or will be.

Why do they do it?

Why do they devote so much of their time to something they didn't like or are sure you will not like? (often really early, before footage or posters ect...)

It seems like a huge waste of time to me. I believe if you didn't like something then state why and move on, I see little benefit in rehashing the reasons over and over. I spent about a week in the section of a movie from last year I was disappointed in, once I stated my grievances & discussed it a little I moved on as it served no purpose to linger, that's what the majority of those who didn't like a movie do, they

Generally the majority, quite reasonably only occupy sections of movies they liked or loved and the upcoming ones from which they either are looking forward to or are cautiously interested in and leave the ones they didn't like alone the majority of the time.

__

I understand people's disappointments with movies and news regarding upcoming movies, fans have certain expectations and when things don't meet that they don't like them, but what can be done? no amount of complaining will change the movie, no amount of complaining will change upcoming movies, people complained about Ledger, how he was gonna be a terrible Joker, nobody seems to remember how that turned out and use it as an example not to judge to early.

This is a forum where people discuss things, most predominately movies of "geek" interest. Therefore, many of us will be passionate fans of the genres and excited about the upcoming movies. If we feel that the movies are bad or a poor adaptation of a source material and we "wasted" all of that time being excited about it, then the purpose would be to share our disappointment, list the reasons why, commiserate with others etc.

Then again, if we watched a movie and liked it, why bother talking about it? Because we are happy to have seen a good movie that paid off our prior excitement? Why is happiness worth sharing but not disappointment?

It's because:

1. They have no lives.
2. They take joy in ruining the excitement of others.
3. They can't possibly understand how some people could like something that they don't.

1. It's a forum
2. People like to discuss cinema as an art form
3. Those that get the most angry usualy feel like it's a waste for a certain film to get so much attention, while other superior ones fail at the box office.

Because people like to ***** and complain.

It would be awful boring if people only talked about what they liked in life. Debate is actually healthy.

Imagine an entire thread of "I loved it"
Gah how boring!

If a movie sucks I'm gonna bash it plain and simple. Not every movie on here has its own section for negativity. Just because someone likes a movie doesn't mean others cant bash it with meaning. I bash a movie for flaws not because it's the hip thing to do.

I guess the Fantastic Four forum is finally getting 2 this user now lol

It is a forum for (primarily) discussing films and comic book films in particular. People discuss both the films they like and the films they don't.

If enough people complain about certain things, the movie studio might notice and rectify them in time for the next movie.

The same reason the news only leads with stories of death and murder. Negativity sells.

And considering that NO film is going to get 100% love from everybody I would expect to see negativity towards just about any movie that is discussed on a site like this.

Which Hype Alcatraz did you crawl out of, OP: The TASM2 boards or the X-Men boards?

Because because people love the characters but are dissatisfied with the most recent movie.

For example, a hardcore Spider-man fan is going to criticize ASM2 alot longer than a non-fan.

fo·rum noun \ˈfȯr-əm\
: a meeting at which a subject can be discussed

: a place or opportunity for discussing a subject

: a large public place in an ancient Roman city that was used as the center of business

Funny how there's no mention of positivity as a requirement.

The BvS forums have an even worse reputation than the Bat-boards.

That has to take genuine effort.

Because they're a fan of the source material, and they weren't pleased with what they saw and how the characters they spend mindless hours idolizing over were mis-represented.

I could almost bet that this specific user is asking this question mostly related 2 the F4 in Name Only reboot & that forum

I understand the need to vent when you didn't/don't like it, we all do that. I'm referring more to those who go there every single day for months on end to rehash the same complaints, don't they think "whats the point? If I hate it why waste time telling people I've told tens of times already?". For the upcoming ones they say they won't see them but who are they kidding they would devote so much time to something they'll not go to see.

Because people like to ***** and complain.

Figured that was a large part of the reason.

Oh I agree, debate is good and it would be boring with nothing but love. But the same members making the same complaints for months isn't a debate it's just whining and trolling.

The same reason the news only leads with stories of death and murder. Negativity sells.

Sad, but true

Or worse....the BVS boards.

I don't go there much due to a lot of the "it's going to be crap" mentality. I'm looking forward to the movie, I understand some of the concerns but feel they are blown out of proportion imo.

For example Gadot is working out for the role to get bigger so that addresses the main issue, she looks like Diana so other than preference for another actress which is just fan casting there is no issue there. In the end she should do fine at worst. The Ledger example fits there imo.

Because this is a forum with people who are passionate about the material the studios base their movies upon, and they're not always happy with the end result.

I wish people would complain less about people complaining. Seriously, I get that you may have enthusiasm for a certain movie, but if someone doesn't share it, they have EQUAL right to post about it as you. The world isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes your world view gets challenged. It actually makes everyone smarter when someone offers a good debate. Embrace it.

Bingo, my thoughts exactly. that is my problem with this world in general and especially the way kids are raised today. people get mad when someone doesnt agree with them and questions what they like and in turn they want to control the outlook on something. If you dont like debating or people representing both ends of the spectrum I recommended staying off here then.

However if soemone on here is trolling and hating without facts and just doing it to be hip then I take a different stance.

I post here for two reasons.

1) To share my joy with other fans. In that context, I resent haters.
2) To acquire a better understanding of film and TV. In that context, criticism is required.

Agreed.

At the end of the day, if something you enjoy deserves universal praise it will survive scrutiny unscathed.

Criticism works like polishing jewelry. If you polish a real diamond it will only shine where lesser valued stones will show their flaws.

Some movies hold up to scrutiny better than others but sometimes it requires skepticism and debate to separate the trash from the treasure.
