These forums thrive off of debate. If everyone agreed there wouldn't be over one million posts.
I guess the Fantastic Four forum is finally getting 2 this user now lol
I've noticed that often threads for movies released a few weeks to a few months back and some upcoming movies have the same members continually go there regularly to talk about how bad it was or will be.
Why do they do it?
Why do they devote so much of their time to something they didn't like or are sure you will not like? (often really early, before footage or posters ect...)
It seems like a huge waste of time to me. I believe if you didn't like something then state why and move on, I see little benefit in rehashing the reasons over and over. I spent about a week in the section of a movie from last year I was disappointed in, once I stated my grievances & discussed it a little I moved on as it served no purpose to linger, that's what the majority of those who didn't like a movie do, they
Generally the majority, quite reasonably only occupy sections of movies they liked or loved and the upcoming ones from which they either are looking forward to or are cautiously interested in and leave the ones they didn't like alone the majority of the time.

I understand people's disappointments with movies and news regarding upcoming movies, fans have certain expectations and when things don't meet that they don't like them, but what can be done? no amount of complaining will change the movie, no amount of complaining will change upcoming movies, people complained about Ledger, how he was gonna be a terrible Joker, nobody seems to remember how that turned out and use it as an example not to judge to early.
I get what the OP is saying. There seems to be certain users who get off on it. Not just posting that they don't like something, but continuing to remind people over and over again that they don't like something. And as the OP says, often it's before they even see a lick of footage.
It's probably because you choose to post nonsense like this all the time rather then contribute to the discussion.![]()
This great evil. Where's it come from? How'd it steal into the world? What seed, what root did it grow from? Who's doing this? Who's killing us, robbing us of life and light? Mocking us with the sight of what we might have known?
Does our ruin benefit the earth? Does it help the grass to grow and the sun to shine?
Is this darkness in you, too? Have you passed through this night?
Some people do get overboard about it. It's like they're trying to convince a movie's fans that they didn't really like it, or trying to talk them out of liking it.
But it goes both ways, with some people jumping down your throat if you didn't like something and putting all kinds of words in a person's mouth that they didn't say. Like if someone dislikes a Christopher Nolan movie (sacre bleu!) some people come out of the woodwork accusing that person of only liking Transformers and special effects and stuff blowing up, when nobody said a single word about Transformers or whatever they're putting in the dissenter's mouth.
Because this is a forum with people who are passionate about the material the studios base their movies upon, and they're not always happy with the end result.
I wish people would complain less about people complaining. Seriously, I get that you may have enthusiasm for a certain movie, but if someone doesn't share it, they have EQUAL right to post about it as you. The world isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes your world view gets challenged. It actually makes everyone smarter when someone offers a good debate. Embrace it.
Likewise, if you dare speak ill about something like Transformers you get a bunch of fans jumping down your throat about how you are an out of touch elitist snob who doesn't like anything more mainstream than Shakespeare.
Nice avvy, Figs!

These boards thrive on debate; debating those who hate a certain film series I like - soon to be a trilogy- made me realize how much I love the films, and why the are superbly made, as I have to articulate what makes them expertly made. Debates are healthy for the dialogue on the worth of a film.
The first part of your post is on the money and not just for movies based on comics, novels or video games either. People get excited for this or that film and if it lets them down they have the right to complain and get their anger and frustrations out.
The one thing I have to point out that CyclopsWasRight might have been referring to in his first post is that some of us are sick of people who complaint too much. Debating anything is always good and as you said, it makes everyone smarter. Always good to hear another person's point of view, especially when it comes to literature and film, people can make you see things in a different light or help you catch things you might have missed the first time.
Personally, I don't like when the same person or people stay in a thread for a long period of time just to shut down other's positivity. The door swings both ways of course, we all know that the larger group are the positive fans that try to shut down those with negative opinions but there's a point where some negativity goes too far to where(and I've called a few people out on this)some fans act like the director or the movie itself slept with their mom. As annoying as overly positive fans can be at times, I think in a lot of cases, dare I say most, positivity trumps negativity in life and it's just a downer to see this or that poster just slam a film over and over and over again. At least the ones who don't have much constructive criticism.
People say agreeing most of the time is "boring". I've always called BS on that. My friends and I have a lot of fun discussing films we all like and agree on. That doesn't mean I don't like getting into arguments with them from time to time but if people think having a good time talking about certain movies is boring, well I tend to write some of them off as being overly negative or people who try to boast that they have better taste than the people they are arguing with. At least the ones who complain about most films.
