Out of all the characters that comics has to offer, why is Batman your favorite? What is it about Batman that makes you be more of a fan of his character than any other comic book hero?

Probably because he's a normal person, and the fact that he's the darkest "superhero" out there...

    You know what...he's just kickass:brucebat:

Because he doesn't have any powers. He just had a really bad day, and chose to change his life because of it. All that he has attained has been because of himself, no-one gave him anything, he worked hard for it.

And also, because out of all the other superhero's, Batman is the only one that *I* could actually become...

He's plausible. It's almost like believing in Santa for me, except instead of getting presents when you're good, when you're bad Batman will find you and give you a beatdown.

I don't even consider the possibility that I could become Batman, it's more like, I have to believe that there is someone out there who has the dedication and goodness to fight a one-man war against evil and corruption. Batman wouldn't be nearly so convincing for me if Gotham weren't so rotten to begin with.

Everytime I hear about some terrorist attack or shooting of civilians, I really really wish Batman existed in real life. :csad:

    Great post.

I could add to everything you said here: the visual appeal of a dark figure with his cape billowing in the wind at night, over a rooftop.
All the imagery associated with this iconic character, the mystery.
His use of brain and muscles.
Empathy for his tragedy and the hability of overcoming his fears and rage by channeling to something positive. His overall complexity!

Pretty much what everyone else said. He uses a negative to do positive things. He allowed his desire for revenge to fester to the point he was willing to do all that was necessary (develop and hone his skills and talents, create the bat arsenal, etc.) as a mortal man to fight these crazy villains. Plus, he does it with style and a cool cape.

His intelligence and drive. any hero can be "badass" but batmans intelligence, obsession and drive are what put him above all others there are other just as smar or smarter in the DC uni but Bats has something extra to his intelligence that is why he is a key member of the JL without him they would have fallen a dozen times over from various threats

He never said Batman was plausible, he said he wished he could exist.

I agree with him, if Batman were to exist I think he could transcend culture and become an icon along the lines of Elvis, The Beatles, Spielberg, Chaplin, Beckham and of course, Jesus.

Don't start flaming me, i'm not saying he's as famous as the rest, but *if* he were to exist, he would be, easily.

Something deep inside of me wishes I could be that man. Handing out justice, giving hope to the people. In England we have such a problem with street gangs who operate with impunity, not scared of justice or retribution. To take them down would take more then a man, or men. It would take a symbol. Something for people to believe in.

That is what Batman is all about.

That is why I like Batman.

    probably because he's incredibly paranoid...

I actually prefer bruce wayne to batman. The take of the character in batman beyond was amazing. An old man who was forced to give up the ghost and ultimately was left hollow but had new life breathed into him by terry.

He'd just been completely consumed by the darkness. I also like the way the last glimmer of hope he has vanquishes when andrea beaumont leaves him in mask of the phantasm and he dons the mask for the first time.

Honourary mentions to Kevin Conroy and Shirley Walker, I definitely wouldn't have liked him if not for these two people

For me Batman represents that anger we all experience when we feel we've been victimized. He stands for every person who has ever been bullied, abused, or shamed in the public spectre. He is the answer for anyone who feels there is nothing good in their life. In short he represents hope and a longing to be released from the shackles of limitations that restrain us all. :brucebat:
