Why is Godzilla (GINO) being used in Doritos commercials?

Wait....people perfer Godzilla 2000 to GINO? Have they actually seen 2000?

I've seen it and between the fish eater and the doppleganger, they're about even......but they both still suck

Yeah i was wondering that myself. my brother thought there was a new movie coming out.

um, if you dont remember when the movie first came out, they had that commercial, all they did now was change the logo to the new logo of doritos.

this will take ya back a few years..greatest, play, ever

All I remember from back then is...

"Here lizard, lizard, lizard..........I think I'll need a bigger box."

i work for frito lay, i'll ask around

I thought the Wallflowers cover of Hero was the best song on the soundtrack.

and it's sad that a Doritos commercial is more entertaining than a multimillion dollar summer movie.

Any Japanese Godzilla fan who liked GINO fails at life:o
You just failed at life for making a sweeping generalization like that. Some people like movies beCAUSE they're so bad.
Oh, wait, yeah, that would describe every single Japanese Godzilla fan on Earth. Hmmm

I like Jean Reno. He turned down the role of agent Smith to be in GINO.

I think it's just a new marketing scheme no one has realized. There is also a commercial using clips from "Twister" with dialogue reshot by Bill Pullman to fit the commercial (for some reason I think it's something financial like a investment or insurance or something).

It's for DirecTV

I can understand people not liking the 98 Godzillia for nostalgic reasons (not really, nostalgia is getting on my nerves), but why is there a continued fan-base for the original? I mean I love the movies for what they are-crappy. Fanboys pick the silliest things to attach onto, and the origianal Godzilla is one of these silly things.

The old ones were cheesy, and the current ones aren't so hot (IMO) but some of the ones of the "Heisei" era (80s and 90s) were pretty cool movies.

Biollante was actually kinda scary:

And tell me Destroyah's not badass:

The funny thing is that commercial would be awesome if they used the old-school Godzilla.

GINO sucks and will always suck. :down

"Godzilla in name only" has actually been in another Godzilla film. Destroy All Monsters, I think.
He's been given the canonical name "Zilla" to differentiate from the regular one, who kicked his ass in that movie I mentioned.

I love Godzilla. Godzilla vs. Megalon is one of the most entertaining movies I have seen in like forever. Not that it's all that good, but still.

See, we drop some nuclear bombs on their soil and look what they come up with. :)

I remember seeing the teaser for Godzilla in MIB. Man when the giant foot came down and smashed the T-Rex, I had my first geekasm.

Well I like my Godzilla to be standing upright, the ability to destory major cities, breath radioactive death from his mouth whenever he chooses, not run away from the battle but rather face it like a man:o So it wouldnt be to much. GINO is a giant Iguana unworthy of being called "Godzilla."

I saw a commercial where Godzilla from the 1998 US movie is shown eating an 18-wheeler full of Doritos. Why use an unsuccessful movie in your ad 8 years after the flick bombed?

I saw it and thought the same thing. I thought the movie was okay, not great. But it's old and it's being advertised on TV as if it's coming out this summer.
