Why is "Spider-Man 3" So Depressing!?

I didn't know that about Sandman. But throughout the movie the only thing Sandman does about his daughter was opening that reliquary with her picture with the same sad music going on, over and over again. That was about the development of that plotline.

There was also a deleted scene with Sandman confronting some doctor about his daughter's condition. There's a photo knocking about with Sandman holding him up against a wall. I don't know if these scenes would have made his arc that much better though, probably not.

I remember that. The doctor was black if I remember correctly. A young guy, too.

Hahahaha people think Vulturess was all Sony? Give me a break. I love Raimi and all(not his Spidey movies), but that had his creative control all over it.

^
Yep,he did create New Goblin. He gone mad...

There were many, many scenes that were filmed that would've lengthen Sandman's storyline and would've made some sense instead of a cluster**** arc.

Exactly.

Not much, but at least it'd have been something. I would have put that instead of the same thing over and over.

Lol, really?

THAT'S what made Spider-Man 3 depressing? That they killed off a villain?

It's not that they killed him off. It's the fact that the hard core fans know hoe hard Venom was to kill. Then he just started hitting the metal posts and the stuff came off of him.

Ya that right there was depressing for me.

That pissed me off as well. That should have merely stunned Venom at best, not separated them.

They pretty much screwed over the Venom character from start to finish in SM3 so it made little difference how he died.

Exactly. I don't care that his death was short and quick; I care mostly about the entire symbiote arc and how even that was ruined before we even got to Venom.

Most of the problems you mention are either just bad writing or not part of the movie.

But I guess Raimi was thinking of a movie that explored different things than the previous ones. The dark side of the story.

Sandman's daughter is still seriously ill by the end of the movie because there's simply no evolutionj of that situation. Every time the movie refers to it it's a sad song and a sad Sandman watching that picture. That's about it. It's supposed to be sad merely because it's underlined that way.

Sandman is never properly brought to justice for his crimes is specially depressing becaus it's incredibly bad written. Peter's personal feelings shouldn't include to let a criminal escape. Sandman killed people other than Uncle Ben.

What to say about Bernard the Butler, the pinnacle of bad writing.

And yes, Raimi didn't bother in closing the Gwen Stacy chapter properly or what happened with Connors's piecve of symbiote.

By the third movie it was obvious that Jameson was taken only as a comic relief. And thus by the third movie the character was worn out, there wasn't more he could offer, and it shows. Much like the Peter and MJ's relationship, we should have seen the next step here and not more back and forth.

Now the actors who died... that's not part of the movie.

All in all, I think the only reason for me why Spider-man was so sepressing is that it followed such a great movie like SM2, just to disappoint.

My point is that it sort of made a sad post-script that this occurred pretty soon after the movie came out!

They portrayed the character so poorly that I didn't even care when his character died. I was just so depressed throughout the whole film. Wasted 3 years of waiting for this film!

It's depressing the fact that a master of horror-comedy totally wasted a character like Venom.

Logically, there was no way that Sandman's daughter would've gotten a happy ending. It depressed me because the cut stuff that appeared in the novel would've saved the movie.

I didn't care if Venom died. All I wanted was more time focused on Venom, the symbiote and even Eddie for that matter.

Of course there was no way Flint's daughter can be cured and the way Sandman's story ended with him flying off is even more ridiculous because he'll obviously just steal more money as he did earlier to try and save his daughter but even then, without the scenes you mentioned, no way in hell can we tell that he stole that money JUST for his daughter.

I didn't like the fact that all of the movies had the same ending or "objective" and that was save Mary Jane from the bad guy...the same thing in all 3 movies was depressing on its own.

Why was it so depressing to me?
Because the trailers were better than the movie.

They could always have Venom join with Sandman's daughter, curing her or something.

I thought it was hilarious and definitely the funniest of the trilogy especially when Peter was slicking back his hair and stuff.

What depressed me about it is Spider-Man 2 is an amazing movie, and Spider-Man 3 is not nearly as good. I don't think it sucks as much as people make it out to, but it is very flawed and when compared to Spider-Man 2, it looks even worse. So, as a conclusion to the series, it sucks that it ended that way. This is why I would like Spider-Man 4 to have happened. Give the series a better ending. I would like to read the script, however. See what ideas were behind it, though we do know it was a battle between Sony and Raimi again. I also REALLY want to see the SM3 Vulture script, and the deleted material from SM3. I am sad no alternate cut of the film has been made. I think making an extended cut could GREATLY benefit this movie. But I guess since the franchise is rebooted, there is less interest or rush for it. SM4 may have made it happen given it was a continuation of the series. But with that dead, SM3.1 looks to be as well. I want it to happen :(
