Why is "Spider-Man 3" So Depressing!?

Seriously, even the new releases of the Blu Rays, SM3 I don't see has deleted scenes on the list of features. I don't see why they would not put them on the DVD unless they planned on making a Director's Cut. But if that is the case, what is the hold up? It's been 5 years and we have a new Spider-Man movie! Why delay a DC? If they're not doing a DC, at least give me the deleted scenes

Would they plan on a DC anytime soon though with the new reboot? It just seems like Sony not wanting to show the scenes that Raimi seemed to really want to use but couldn't, or was forced not to.

I dont see why they would hide it though. It's just weird to not put it out there for people who want to see it, unless you plan a DC. But, like you said, this is a new series so demand for a SM3.1 are prob low, so why not just put them on the new DVDs they put out on Blu Ray? Makes no sense.

Yah, as soon as The Amazing Spider-Man was announced, I lost all hope for a Spider-Man 3.1. It made sense to put in deleted scenes for the re-releases, but...I really don't see Sony even giving us deleted scenes now. I don't know why...at least show us the scenes that would've made the film wayyy better.

Agreed! Hell, give me the deleted scenes so I can just recut my own version of the movie with them in tact, LOL! I know first scene I would cut in my personaly recut...that Butler scene!!! I still have NO idea why that was ever included. Such an unneccessary scene. Could easily have cut straight from Harry's deformed face telling Peter no to Peter arriving at the battle. Didn't need that dumb scene.

I think SM3 requires bits of subtraction in taking out the Butler scene and changing the Sandman/Venom team-up scenes. Those are glaring scenes that have to go. I think you could probably limit the kids and such during the climax, as well. But towards the beginning, they needed to add more stuff. Like, where did the symbiote come from? It just landing was lazy. Also, expand on Sandman a bit more. Add Brock scenes prior to his Venom transformation. Etc. SM3 needs more added than cut. I would also consider cutting the street strutting as well, but I would have to play around with an alternate cut before deciding to fully take it out.

I would have to rewatch it again to find other bits to cut out.

The symbiote does just land in the park, although there is a bit of the book that tells how the symbiote is following Peter because it can sense his power and the possible rage and aggression he could possess.

That's another thing I wished Spider-man 3 touched on,and was disappointed it didn't. I wish the symbiote was made more of a "character" in the film. Did it "love" Peter like in the comics,and did it feel betrayed when he abandoned it? It was never explained how it worked and how it enhanced Peter's abilities,or how Brock knew who MJ was;etc,etc. The whole symbiote/Venom storyline is complex and needed to be explored. But Raimi and the writers really stripped away everything interesting just to fit it in part 3. It's almost like taking a beautiful antique red car,and spray painting black stripes on it,removing everything inside but the steering wheel and slashing the tires AND still trying to call it a classic. Not...gonna...work.

I never read the novelization but that was rather obvious to me. To be honest, considering that the symbiote is an intelligent life form, I always took it that the landing in the park was purposeful, not accidental.

I don't have a problem where it landed, but I would like some account of where it came from or why it even followed Peter, which was explained a little in the novelization. Of course this isn't a Nolan film where everything has to be explained, but something to show why the symbiote followed Peter and no one else in the park would have been helpful.

I agree it probably wasn't an accident, but it still needed touched upon. Without any set-up, it throws people off and makes people go "WTF."

I still like the way SSM did the symbiote storyline. It made it into the lab first,before Peter got it. Spider-man 3 should've done it that way. So,then Connors and Peter could do experiments on it and explain to those in the audience who don't know anything about the symbiote what it does and where it came from;etc,etc. Then give Peter the black suit. The film rushed everything so much. Does anyone remember what Laura Ziskin said on the Spidey 3 dvd? "We didn't want to take alot of time explaining where it came from." Then she chuckles and said,"So,it came from space!"

I actually would prefer OsCorp to still play in some role as it did a little in Spider-Man 2 and OsCorp finds the symbiote.

But, yah...TSSM did it perfectly...and then having the symbiote slowly turn into its own while on Spidey.

Well, I think that Raimi didn't want the audience to know that the symbiote was intelligent initially (As with the comics). That it was just some kind of glob that attached itself to Peter and altered his personality. I agree however that toward the time when Peter realized that it was negatively affecting him there should have been some effort to show that the symbiote had thoughts and emotions and this could/should have been further explored with Eddie. Such as, Eddie feels alone and rejected by the world and the symbiote becomes his only "friend".

Again,it makes me wonder if Raimi screwed over the symbiote/Venom storyline intentionally,or just didn't care. Either way,if true,he's lost alot of my respect. Not that he'd ever admit it or anything.

I don't think Raimi would intentionally screw up anything. But I don't think his heart was in it. When you read his comments on Venom he doesn't care for him much at all:

I had never read Venom in the comic books, since they came after my time. Because of that, I didn't have a natural inclination toward him. And when I read those comics, at [producer] Avi Arad's urging, I didn't understand where Venom's humanity was. I know that kids think he looks cool, and they think he's a good villain for Spider-Man. I actually didn't. What was it about Peter's own makeup that this villain represented some weaker or darker side to? Just looking like a dark version of him is not enough for me. The more I read [Venom stories], the less interested I became. But then Avi said, ''Look, you've got to be less selfish. You've got to learn what it is these kids love about Venom.'' So I tried to open my mind up. Then Alvin developed a character that I did understand, and did appreciate.

No; Raimi didn't intentionally do anything. I mean, he did in fact film the scenes that were in the novelization, and I was totally fine with how the symbiote/Venom and Eddie were portrayed, so I would have been fine if the outcome of the film was almost like the novelization...but either Raimi wanted to use the alternate scenes or Sony forced their hand, but, I don't see how Raimi intentionally set out to screw up the characters. The way the film turned out, it could be seen as that though.
