Why is Wolverine the leader?

It makes up for the complete and utter misuse on Wolverine being a jobber in your own words on X-men Evolution.

But, see, I hated that in X-MEN EVOLUTION as well. Logan got his rear kicked nearly every fight until maybe the middle of Season 3, when he beat the only mutant who has jobbed more than him in that show, Colossus. Rogue was clearly the most dangerous character in that show; she could drop even Magneto with ease.

I hate that kind of thing no matter who it is or where. There are better ways to write characters without being that blatant. As cool as Batman usually was in JUSTICE LEAGUE or JLU, sometimes that sort of thing happened there, too, and it was annoying.

Cyclops doesn't need to be a jobber to make Wolverine look good, just as Wolverine doesn't have to be a jobber to make Cyclops look good. One can write both as being different but cool in their own ways without resorting to jobbing. That is the point I was trying to make.

It hasn't ruined WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN, after all. I mean, sometimes in SPIDER-MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS, hey, the Amazing Friends would job to Spidey. It happens. But the dilemma is that being unable to nail these nuances keep W&TXM trapped in the good, but not great category. At least by episode 17 as a whole. We have another 8 episodes to go. Maybe some of these issues improve.

The entire X-Men doesn't have to lose to canon fodder just so Logan can be awesome, is what I am saying. Just as Logan wouldn't need to, say, lose to the Blob to make Rogue look awesome.

Cyclops is nothing without Jean Grey. If I was Professor, I would have put Wolverine in charge too. Who else is there to choose from? I'm sure Storm would have been his natural first choice but she was still in Africa at the time so it had to be him. As for Beast, sure he could step up to the the mantle if Professor asked him to but he's not a natural leader and is better in a more supportive role. It had to be Wolverine. Definitely NOT Cyclops

He seems to be doing fine without her now.

Only because a certain blond telepath is slowly filling the void Jean has left. So its made him slightly more focused and sped up his recovery process. And now has Emma's on the team he can live with hope that one day Emma will be able to locate her. Cyclops needs deep female companionship to be a good leader. And who better than the telepaths. I mean look at the women he's been linked to in the past. Jean, Psylocke and now Emma. They all have one thing in common.

Wolverine is the leader because he is leading by example. He realises he makes mistakes, as do others, and he fixes them, much like he would want his team to do.

Leader is a very broad term, and truth be told they all have leadership qualities, just Logan seems to prefer it on his own in most other incarnations.

Doesn't make him a bad choice for a leader though, it'd be nice to see an episode really asking himself why he would want a team vsing being on his own to solve this.

Ok forget all that stuff about his name being in the title and wanting to promote the upcoming movie and all that. I'm talking about as if you were in the show what would the logic be? Wolverine said it himself no one would be involved if he was the leader. Yet the professor puts him in charge without saying why. Yes Cyclops is upset about Jean but if professor X told him to lead the team he would.

If messiah complex has shown anything it's that cyclops is more than ready to lead the x-men and mutantkind without jean or the professor around. Same with Storm who is capable of leading. So why wolverine? All he does is follow X's messages from the future. Hell even forge could have done that. The 1st season is more than halfway done and all wolverine did was assemble the team which he really didn't have much to do with. Cause the sentinels in the future to be upgraded. Good job there all mighty logan. And stop the brotherhood which the other x-men were capable of doing without him.
It's clearly a marketing ploy. Nothing more.

Wolverine is the leader because he has a new movie coming out, and he was the star of the X-Men movies, and was their leader in the 3rd. But on the cartoon its because Xavier tells him he needs to lead them to save the future.

Still points to marketing ploy. Wolverine is the most popular character to ever wear an "X" & he's not even a founding member. There's never been a Cyclops video game, Nightcrawler's never had an ongoing series, Storm doesn't have her own movie & think how many products are in existence that feature Wolverine & NO OTHER MUTANT. This is what I meant by marketing ploy. They're trying to cash in on his popularity, especially with the movie coming out.

Pretty much this.

The show definitely feels like it's in the same vein of the X-Films to me, as Wolverine is more of a hybrid of Wolverine and Cyclops while Cyclops is really a phony hero thats just a complete wash-out without Jean. This is despite the fact that the complete opposite was pretty much shown in the comics. It really wouldn't annoy me that much if this show didn't play on a vague universal X-History, since this show has Wolverine yelling at Cyclops for things Wolverine always did like the two of them completely forgot their history together. Like it was said, the tension that should come from Wolverine being the leader isn't really there. That's why it's clearly a marketing ploy to make Wolverine the great central star.

There is no point really complaining though, as it's not going to change things. It's still a good show. I like it better then pretty much all the previous X-Men cartoons. And at least Cyclops still has a role in this series after becoming a wash out, unlike the X-Films.

There's validity in this statement, I think. People complain about Scott's death in X3 but I think his screen time in X2 was probably just as brief, & his role in X1 wasn't all that meaty, either. Hollywood doesn't care about Cyclops. Only the 90's series made any real effort to give the core characters equal exposure. The current series' title says it all.
