not only that but SPIDERMAN more than any other movie proves the validity, and the vialbility of superhero movies. SM has made close to $1.5 BILLION dollars with 2 moives. If Hollywood doesn't get that there is an appeal for superheroes NOTHING will change their mind.
furthermore, SM has been the most faithfull of ALL the superhero movies to come out recently and and both movies were good movies, with solid acting and directing.
That should be the formula that Hollywood needs to follow; faithful, good directing. good writing, good acting.
Superman did not meet these criterias. It was kind of faithfull but took SERIOUS liberties by creating something that NEVER existed before; SM's baby. It also changed the relationship dynamics DRAMATICALLY.
I thought the writing was poor, and pre crisis silly. (lex's plot)
The acting was fine.
The reason why supporting ANY superhero movie good or bad, faithfull or not, is a BAD idea, is because it allows Hollywood to do whatever they want with these characters.
IMO Superman is NOT deserving of success. This is coming from someone who honestly wanted the movie to be good and successful.
just IMO.
Well said. You hit every nail squarely on the head. I'm a huge Superman and DC fan. I'm a passing Spider-Man fan, and the only Marvel book I read regularly these days is Daredevil. I wanted to like this movie. I saw it opening night with anticipation and an open mind. SR cannot compare to the quality of the Spider-Man films, and Batman Begins remains the standard of which all comic book films are held to for me.

My only hope is that with this film's failure, we'll get a proper relaunch sooner rather than later. And when I say relaunch, I don't mean rehash. Superman or no, I'm not going to swallow what Hollywood throws at me regardless of quality. I go to the movies to be entertained and/or inspired. For me, Superman Returns did neither.

I don't want it to fail, but honestly, I don't want it to do extremely well - just break even enough to warrant a "proper" sequel.

If it does fail though, studio's will be a lot more cautious about CB movie run-time's in the future, and more comic book movies need to be this length IMO. X3 SHOULD have as long as SR, but we got an ADD director, I would have had no problem with a longer Batman Begins, and hopefully Spiderman 3 will be SR length also.

This movie didn't fail because of its running time. There's not a lot of brains in Hollywood I agree, but I would think even Fox could tell you that.

It hasnt failed yet, it hasnt even come out in a lot of countries yet.
