Why was Danny Elfman replaced???

there was a scene in SM2 where Doc Ock's wife dies. They used temp. music from Christopher Young (the guy who scored SM3) from his Hellraiser score. Raimi loved how it worked in the scene and asked elfman to recreate it as close as he could. Elfman did, but it didn't work as well as Raimi wanted. Raimi brought it Chris Young to do it himself, and he couldn't do it all that well either, so they just bought the rights to the song and used it. Elfman kinda took it as a slap in the face and thought it was distasteful (and I agree with him) and decided to part ways with Raimi.

I liked Symbiote Spider-Man's theme, and the Elfman theme that was brought back. Other than that, I didnt think it was horrible, but nothing really stood out. I'm all for bringing back Elfman.

The problem with Young's score, is it didn't mesh at all with Elfman's themes. That was more than evident in the opening title sequence. Young's score would have been fine if he had done a whole new main theme.

Elfman's work on the first two films has never been that great in my opinion, anyway. It was okay, but nothing I'd consider irreplacable.

I agree. I liked his stuff from Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Xmas. Such a talented composer.

In Spider-Man 3, I beleive I only heard that familiar part of the Elfman score right before the final battle and Peter goes back to whips out his original red and blue suit. That was it. I remember humming that tune since Part 2. I wish it was used more in this SM3.

I thought the score in Spider-Man 3 was pretty damned good. I don't think it beat some of what Spider-Man 2 had, but it was good enough for me to forget that Elfman was replaced.
