For me BB blows away every other superhero flick ever, obviously Superman is the polar opposite of Bats I just wonder if the new Supes movie will make it to the same level of greatness that BB exists in.
Kane said:- Both films are classically inspired for a modern age. I mean there was clearly more influence in Begins from the classic 70s precrisis stuff than the modern post. In essense, both films are still faithful to the character.

The way I see it BB was a composite of Batman Year one + The long halloween + DKR = Batman Begins.

Also while I'm sure the action in SR will be great I am dubious as to wether there will be anyone action scene in SR that will work as well as the first scene w/ Bats attacking the punks in BB.
That was perfect and Nolan got Batman right on the money.

I think Supes' first appearance can't be compared to Batman's in their respective movies, BB and SR, because you are wanting different emotional reactions from your audience. To me they are not comparable.
As far as faithful, I think Superman Returns is indeed more faithful to the Donner films than the comics, but to be honest with you, most fans feel that the Donner films are more faithful to Superman's actual character than the recent comics and animated series. He's been protrayed as a bully in cartoons and not an icon in comics, so I see that as a plus.
Compared to Batman Begins. It really is hard to beat. Batman Begins had something going for it that neither Spider-man movies or S:TM had....a good plot. Spider-man tends to be shallow on the plot level (villain comes in...goes after Spider-man). STM was more a character story than plot driven one. Batman Begins had both character AND plot.
So I don't know, I can say for sure that I think it will be better than the Spider-man movies and X1 and X3. The comparable test is comparing it to BB, X3, and STM. For me those are the best superhero movies I've ever seen.

19 years in the making will this rebirth of the Superman franchise be as critically well recieved by fans alike as the new Batman film was?
