In continuity. It's like the ultimate literary ******* to Doom, basically: he enslaves the Purple Man by simply resisting his power through pure force of will, uses him to brainwash the world into accepting him as leader, kicks the Avengers' asses, and steps down as leader of the world himself because he's bored with the administrative stuff that follows after he's finally achieved his ultimate goal.

Honestly that was the sort of thing that would almost make me enjoy Doom's current ignominious descent into lackey-jobber-punchingbag. Doom the Unbeatable Ubermensch always annoyed me, I prefer when he's portrayed as unmatchably brilliant but ultimately undone in his grandest designs by his own flaws (and you know, that accursed Richards).

Well, that was the unmatchably brilliant part at work. You've gotta expect that, statistically, a guy that smart is gonna win every once in a while. He just happened to win big that time.

Winning once in a while I'm okay with, but winning the entire Earth is just taking it too far. It's leaving out the side of Doom's personality that couldn't bear to admit he was wrong, then went into such a rage over his subsequent failure that he ended up burning his whole damn face off. When you let Doom conquer the entire Earth, then go 'okay I've proved I'm the awesomest ever, you can all have your lives back now', you're ignoring that part of him where his reach ultimately has to exceed his grasp by that nth degree.

Oh hey since we're chatting, did you ever read Empire? It's pretty much Mark Waid's Doom Takes Over the World. Man, that book was amazing.

That whole turning enemies into cows business just shows that Richards is a dozen times more messed up than Doom.

Who does that?

I love the Richards character, (the whole wife beating, Heaven entering, Galactus saving, Deus ex Machina package) but I think he should very well wear an iron mask himself. That's what makes him awesome I guess.
